The Libertarian Party of Guadalupe County, a county affiliate of the Texas state organization, announced Friday that it will no longer recognize the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire as an official affiliate of the national Libertarian Party.
In a statement posted to social media, the county affiliate said it believes all Libertarian Party affiliates should uphold the organization’s “core principles and bylaws.” The statement specifically cited the New Hampshire affiliate’s “continued support for authoritarian rhetoric and tactics,” as well as its public endorsement of Donald Trump on the morning of the 2024 general election.
The Guadalupe County affiliate also urged other Libertarian affiliates to join it in rejecting the New Hampshire party, framing the move as a necessary response to what it described as the Libertarian National Committee’s failure to issue its own condemnation.
Earlier this month, the Libertarian National Committee declined to consider a motion that would have censured both the New Hampshire and Colorado state affiliates for their online conduct and invited the New Hampshire party to disaffiliate itself. A vote to bring that motion to the floor failed 5–10, with Chair Steven Nekhaila abstaining.
As of Monday, the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire has not publicly responded to the statement. The full statement from the Libertarian Party of Guadalupe County is reprinted below:
Statement from the Libertarian Party of Guadalupe County
The Libertarian Party of Guadalupe County firmly believes that all affiliates—whether at the state or county level—should uphold the core principles and bylaws of the national Libertarian Party.
In light of the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire’s continued support for authoritarian rhetoric and tactics, as well as their open endorsement of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, we no longer recognize them as an official affiliate of the Libertarian Party.
Furthermore, the refusal of the Libertarian National Committee majority to condemn this rogue affiliate leaves us with no choice but to take a principled stand. We encourage other affiliates who view the actions of the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire as hypocritical and antithetical to our values to join us in openly rejecting their affiliation.
We believe liberty is not served by abandoning principle for provocation, nor by aligning with figures who openly oppose our core beliefs.
