Libertarian National Committee Chair Steven Nekhaila issued a statement this week criticizing President Donald Trump’s recently passed “One Big Beautiful Bill,” describing it as a “$5 trillion debt hike buried under a dump truck of partisan pork.” The legislation narrowly passed both chambers of Congress this week and is awaiting Trump’s signature.
In his statement, shared by the Libertarian Party on Thursday, Nekhaila called the bill fiscally reckless and fundamentally dishonest, referring to it as “another lie wrapped in patriotism and passed with fake urgency.” He accused Republicans of “cosplaying” as fiscal conservatives while contributing to rising government spending and deepening the national debt.
Nekhaila also praised Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky for voting against the measure. Trump reportedly plans to support a Republican primary challenger against Massie in 2026, after referring to him as a grandstanding holdout in a recent Truth Social post. Nekhaila described Massie as an “endangered species of Principled Congressman.”
“This bill is not beautiful. It’s bloated,” Nekhaila continued. “It’s not patriotic. It’s parasitic. And we will not stop until the entire corrupt machine is dismantled, debt, taxes, empire and all.”
His full statement is republished below:
“Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ is just another lie wrapped in patriotism and passed with fake urgency. They’re calling it a spending cut, but what it really is… is a $5 trillion debt hike buried under a dump truck of partisan pork.
Real fiscal responsibility doesn’t mean robbing Peter to pay Paul while running the printing press so much it makes the Weimar Republic blush. It means downsizing the entire state.
Thomas Massie, an endangered species of ‘Principled Congressman,’ has stood in opposition to the bill, drawing the ire from the Republican Party and even earning a promised primary opponent backed by President Trump.
If you’re tired of the GOP cosplaying as fiscal conservatives while bankrupting the future, there’s only one political party that’s never wavered: the Libertarian Party. We’ve been fighting the debt, the Fed, and the welfare-warfare state before Trump ever dabbled in electoral politics.
This bill is not beautiful. It’s bloated. It’s not patriotic. It’s parasitic. And we will not stop until the entire corrupt machine is dismantled, debt, taxes, empire and all.”

Does the LNC Chair need any sort of approval from National before issuing statements?
I don’t want any statements from the national party praising anyone in the duopoly. The goal of the LP is to advocate for Libertarians and the Libertarian Party, not registered members of the duopoly.
Balanced Budget Amendment.
A forceful and valid statement by Chair Nekhaila.
