The Libertarian Party of New York will meet later this month for its 2026 nominating convention, where members will select a slate of candidates for statewide office and determine the party’s delegation to the upcoming Libertarian National Convention.
In the September 30 issue of its monthly newsletter, Secretary Andrew Kolstee wrote that the party’s next convention will take place on October 25 at the Homewood Suites in Rochester. It will begin at 12:30 PM ET and will run into the evening. No specific registration details were included.
“For the first time, the cost to attend the convention is FREE although donations are welcome,” Kolstee wrote. “Lunch will not be provided. The Monroe County Libertarian Party is working to organize an evening dinner event and details will be announced when they are ready.”
Party business to be discussed that afternoon includes filling vacancies on the State Committee, making nominations for Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, and Comptroller, and selecting the Libertarian Party of New York’s representatives to the National Platform and Credentials Committee, as well as its state delegation to the 2026 national convention. That convention will take place next May in Michigan.
The party’s nominating convention comes earlier than in previous years, with the organization’s 2024 convention taking place across two days in March of that same year. Kolstee notes that petitioning for nominees also won’t begin until April 2026; however, the party views starting the process now as “important for momentum.”
