The LPAlliance, an inter-caucus coalition of Libertarian Party members, will host debates for Libertarian National Committee chair and vice chair candidates ahead of the party’s national convention later this month.
The organization said Wednesday that it will host a chair debate on May 13 at 8:00p ET featuring candidates Evan McMahon, Jim Ostrowski, Wes Benedict, and Rob Yates. Former Libertarian Party presidential nominee Jo Jorgensen will moderate the debate. LPAlliance said it also invited John Hudak, another candidate for chair, but that he had not responded to the invitation.
Jeremy Kauffman, chair of the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire, has also since announced a campaign for national chair, though his announcement came after LPAlliance first published details for the debate.
The chair election will take place during the Libertarian National Convention in Grand Rapids, Michigan, later this month. The candidates are seeking an open seat after current LNC Chair Steven Nekhaila said he will not run for reelection and will instead seek an at-large position on the national committee.
LPAlliance presents itself as a group of members and activists from different factions working to rebuild the Libertarian Party. It regularly covers national party affairs and hosted a meet-and-greet with candidates for national secretary earlier this week. It also operates The Torch, an online journal focused on libertarian theory and party news.
The organization also said it will host a vice chair debate on May 14, though it has not said whether Jorgensen will also moderate and has not released a list of invited candidates. According to a list of vice chair candidates produced by party encyclopedia LPedia, identified candidates this year include Amanda Griffiths, Tony D’Orazio, Bryce Thon, and Stephen Nass.
