Libertarian National Committee Fills Seats on Audit, Candidate Support, and Affiliate Support Committees

The Libertarian National Committee has announced the election of 11 members to its Audit, Candidate Support, and Affiliate Support Committees following a series of votes held earlier this month.

National Secretary Jonathan McGee published the results of each vote to the LNC’s public Business List in a series of threads beginning July 11. In all elections, candidates were required to receive approval from a majority of LNC members or their alternates in the event a representative didn’t vote. The only exception was the Audit Committee race, which was specifically closed to those members serving as national officers.

Region 3 Representative Dustin Coffell was elected to the Audit Committee seat reserved for those LNC members not currently holding an office position, while Jake Porter of the Libertarian Party of Iowa won one of the two seats reserved for individuals outside the national committee. As of publication, the second non-LNC seat remains vacant because none of the other nominees received majority support and the LNC has not released the results of another vote.

Under the LNC Policy Manual, the Audit Committee is responsible for selecting the independent auditor who reviews the party’s finances, as well as determining the scale and scope of that review. It also helps the LNC understand the auditor’s findings and recommendations, assists with responding to any deficiencies, and presents its findings at each Libertarian National Convention.

Region 2 Representative Joe Hannoush and Region 7 Representative Olivia Hayse were elected as the LNC members of the Candidate Support Committee. The committee oversees the process through which Libertarian Party candidates request financial assistance from the national party and reviews the party’s candidate-support standards during the first six months of each LNC term. It similarly reviews candidate applications and makes formal recommendations on whether individual requests merit support.

The Candidate Support Committee also develops training programs with the Information Services Committee and party staff, as well as campaign materials when resources allow. Like the Affiliate Support Committee, it includes both LNC and non-LNC members. However, its additional non-LNC members are appointed by the national chair based on recommendations from the LNC members serving on the committee.

For the Affiliate Support Committee, LNC members elected Vice Chair Amanda Griffiths, Region 4 Representative Mimi Robson, Region 2 Alternate Omar Recuero, and Region 5 Representative Susan Hogarth. They also chose several non-LNC members, electing Tony D’Orazio of the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania, Valerie Sarwark of the Libertarian Party of Colorado, and Brittany Kosin of the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania.

Affiliate Support Committee

The Affiliate Support Committee must have at least seven members overall, including at least two members of the LNC. It is responsible for identifying and prioritizing the needs of state affiliates, with its research used to help shape the national party’s annual budget and the services Libertarian Party staff provide to state parties. It may also recommend specific measures to assist certain affiliates and monitor whether their needs are being met.

The terms of all Audit, Candidate Support, and Affiliate Support Committee members end at the same time as those of the Libertarian National Committee that elected them, meaning the 11 members will serve through the next national convention or until their successors are chosen, whichever happens first.
