Bob Bird gains significant endorsement

Bob Bird, the Alaskan Independence Party‘s candidate for US Senate, recently garnered the endorsement of the Alaskan Right to Life. Bird was president of the Alaska Right to Life from 1995-1997. The Bird campaign sent out a press release.

Today Alaskan Independence Party Candidate for U.S. Senate, Mr. Bob Bird was endorsed by the Alaska Right to Life. Mr. Bird was also endorsed by Alaska Right to Life in his 1990 run for the seat currently occupied by Senator Ted Stevens garnering over 30% of the vote.

The Alaska Right to Life endorsement was keenly sought in the 2004 race between Senator Lisa Murkowski and AIP Candidate Jerry Sanders ultimately ending in the group issuing a statement endorsing neither candidate. Alaska Right to Life has over 50,000 supporters across the state and represents a substantial victory for Mr. Bird, a long time Pro-Life advocate instrumental to the formation and success of the Alaska Rescue Project.

Mr. Bird can be heard at the Fairbanks Carlson Center during the Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce Candidates forum on August 12, 2008. The Fairbanks Chamber recognizing the impact that a third party candidate like Mr. Bird has on the tight U.S. Senate race invited him to attend the event.

The Anchorage Daily News also covered the endorsement.

    Fred,

Faint? It should sound quite loud.

I feel bad, though, because at worst Bob Bird is #2 to Scotty Boman in my view of best candidates for federal office.

I’m a little troubled by some of his videos… He’s really into state ownership of natural resources, it seams, even as he criticizes Maxine Waters, etc., as socialists (which they are).

Do I hear the faint sound of a whip cracking???

    GE,

I know, I’v had to make the same promise. I’v donated to Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Libertarians, and Constitutionalists…

  5. G.E. August 12, 2008

Trent – I’d like to, but I promised my wife no more political contributions this year. I might have to make an exception for Bob Bird.

    GE,

It may not be a problem particular to Alaska, but an issue with which he feels he can connect with a certain group. For example, he also has a statement on Guns that cites the 2nd amendment–why would a free and independent Alaska cite the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution of the United States.

Besides–not all of the Alaskan Independence Party members are for seccession. The core tenant is that it should be an OPTION,and that it should be put up for referendum.

Oh–and GE–you can vote for him. Send him cash.

  8. G.E. August 12, 2008

My only beef with him, I guess, is that he doesn’t seem to be a secessionist. Is he?

Why talk about “illegal immigration” if you’re a secessionist? Who is immigrating to Alaska? Polar bears?

    GE,

I believe he is a free-trader. He is my favorite CP candidate, with Robert Owens for AG of Ohio coming close in second.

This guy Bob Bird is so on-the-money, I’m speechless. I normally can tear apart a candidate’s platform, but Bird is hardcore constitutionalist. Maybe he has some bad ideas he doesn’t espouse here (i.e. where is he on free trade?), but his constitutional understanding is so spot-on, I would really like to vote for this guy.

I consider Bird to be probably the best third-party candidate this cycle. Not strongest, mind you, but best.

    Bob Barr too.

    “Secession is grand!”

Indeed. If Alaska ever managed to secede, I would give serious thoughts to moving up there. I’m not really expecting WA to become more libertarian anytime soon…

    And Zimbabwean inflation.

    Wow. Odd.

Lew Rockwell just mentioned Bob Bird too. =)

Steve – Actually, I think as of today, that’s not the case. They just revalued the currency so that $10 billion was worth $1.

Until then, $10 billion could not buy a loaf of bread.

Also of interest is Ray Metcalfe–the former state representative from the “Republican Moderate” Party–is running in the Democratic primary, although he is likely to get crushed.

Soon, thanks to the Fed, we’ll all be self-made millionaires.

Nearly everybody in Zimbabwe is now a multimillionaire.

    PEACE

    AHAHHAHA. Nice.

Cuddy used to be the President of the First National Bank of Anchorage and is a former Alaskan Representative. He spent $1 million on his 1996 primary election against Ted Stevens and scored 27%.

Soon, thanks to the Fed, we’ll all be self-made millionaires.

    That should be their slogan.

The Alaskan Senate race is the most important one to me this year.

The Republican primary just got smaller, with Ted Stevens bowing out, there are only 2 competitors. The frontrunner, Dave Cuddy, is a Ron Paul activist and self-made millionaire.

The AIP candidate, Bob Bird, is also a Ron Paul activist–but also the former President of the Alaskan Right to Life.

If Alaska gained independence, it could ban abortion.

If Vermont did as well, it could keep it legal.

    Secession is grand!
