The AP has released a brief article about the various third-party presidential candidates trying to get on the ballot in Alabama.
Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain likely won’t be the only presidential candidates listed on Alabama’s Nov. 4 ballot.
The campaigns of Ralph Nader, Bob Barr, Chuck Baldwin and Cynthia McKinney hope to have their names spread across the top of Alabama’s ballot along with the major party candidates.
The independent and third-party candidates have supporters — and in some cases paid professionals — scurrying across the state to get voters to sign petitions to get them on the ballot.
The article does not mention that the requirements which are imposed upon independent and third-party candidates are not required of John McCain or Barack Obama.

Nader has about 7,500 sigs, Barr about 4,000 and Baldwin about 2,000 as of the last time we turned in. McKinney people so far claim poverty and priorities in other states. Charles Jay is a possibility, although “remote.” All counts raw.
Darryl W. Perry and the Alabama Statesmen are leading a volunteer effort to get Charles Jay on the ballot in Alabama. If Jay’s donation efforts are successful and the volunteers get the campaign started with a good number of signatures, the campaign will also hire some professional collectors.
