Democratic Incumbent Switches to Libertarian Party

Staff at LP blog:

In Clark County, Indiana, incumbent county surveyor Bob Isgrigg has switched his affiliation from Democrat to Libertarian as he runs for re-election this year.

Isgrigg has expressed concern about how the county handles its drainage projects, and filed a lawsuit against county officials several years ago.

jt, gp made a big deal about the fact that the Barr campaign had a line item in its FEC filings that read Limo Services. There was no granularity provided, but he presented it as “proof” that the Barr campaign was profligate.

As I recall, this was also the timeframe when gp narced to the FEC because his ally(s) the LNC did not sufficiently explain to him certain expenditures that, on first blush to him, appeared to him that the LNC was making inappropriate expenditures that supported the Barr campaign. The notion of executive sessions was critiqued as a means to cover up shady dealings, yet evidence of this was never presented, just wild accusations and thin evidence.

GP often reminds us that he has written A book exposing misfeasant expenditures of LNC funds involving the Browne campaign. He often reminds us that the misfeasance — even malfeasance — could be repeating itself.

I’m certainly for integrity in the nuts-and-bolts of how the LP’s (very limited) funds flow, but GP seems to position himself as a kind of watchdog/ombudsman. I respect that, but when isolated datapoints are blown out of proportion or taken out of context, this behavior seems to crossover to being a disservice to cause of liberty, IMO.

GP has promised a more thorough accounting of the limo-service line item and why it reflected poorly on the Barr campaign. I’ve yet to see one.

In light of the fact that GP had sought the 08 nomination himself, it seemed highly inappropriate for him to not maintain some sense of decorum and equanimity. I saw no care taken in making these accusations; it looked like sour grapes to many, including me. Perhaps it wasn’t, but IMO the entire string of events struck me as — at minimum — petty and insubstantial.

    Hence: “limo-service minutiae.”

    Limo-service minutiae? What is that?

gp, yes, it appears that way. Of course, political movements wax and wane. No matter what happens on election day, TP activism is highly likely to diminish after the election, at least for a while.

Whether the LP can take advantage of the obvious need for an effective 3rd party pushing for freedom across the board, or whether we’ll continue to be mired in dogmatic sanctimony or limo-service minutiae remains an open question. Current trends indicate more of the same, but hope springs eternal.

I believe the Libertarians also have a city councilman in Indianapolis who ditched the Republican Party.

How many surveyor, engineer, coroner, etc. positions go unchallenged?
