Tom Woods’ Speech From Nullify Now! Los Angeles Becomes Internet Sensation

  1. At the time that I said that the Nazarene was birthed during Saturnalia, I believed that Jesus Christ was born on December 25th, the Roman Year Zero. This did not make it so.

I believe, but can verify, that you and the Bean Town Physicist pulled your LP / Peace Party bull shit in 2007 ………

I don’t know what david is going on about as I did listen to the speech and even liked the speech all I am saying is it is under no definition, libertarian or otherwise, and internet sensation.

The Hayek vs. Keynes rap was an internet sensation, this is not.

    Don @ 12,

    1) Actually, I answered with, not without, answering.

    2) My philosophy and Dr. Phillies’s philosophy are very different.

    3) No hemming and hawing — and no “for years,” either. At the time that I claimed that the LP was the only American peace party, I believed that it was. These days, I consider the term oxymoronic.

  4. The Normandy Blvd Knappster and illegitimate philosophical son of Academic Fraud Doctor George Phillies: answering with out answering.

Oh, BTW, these guys have claimed, for years, that the LP is the one and only American Peace Party / Anti War Party. Usually after a page and a half of hemming and hawing, and, well, lying! Same ole Tom! Same ole George!

ah, such 21st Century slap stick comedy!

    Red @9,

    You write:

“Tom, what event causes you to pronounce the death of the Westphalian nation state?”

Well, let’s be careful to distinguish between what event(s) caused the death of the Westphalian nation state, and what events caused my pronouncement 😉

Three things caught my attention in the last week to affirm to me that some time in the recent past, the Westphalian nation-state is dead (although still perhaps flopping around in uncoordinated nervous discharge).

The first two were nominally economic, and are explained in an article I wrote a couple of days ago.

I’m going to abstain from mentioning the third, as I may write something extended on it as well.

The two things I noticed are not necessarily causal, but they are symptomatic. Borders are now passe and taxation of anyone who doesn’t care to be taxed will soon be impossible.

  6. SORRY FOR THE REPOSTING, BUT I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO TEST THE PIN HEADED CP IDEOLOGY OF PASTOR CHUCKIE ‘REMEMBER THE ALAMO’ BALDWIN’s TAKE ON THE MODERN WORLD:

    “The Bitcoin Triples Again

The online currency has minted off-line millionaires. But for how long?

The world’s fastest-gaining currency has tripled in price again. Last week, SmartMoney reported that the Bitcoin had exploded from an exchange rate near zero to more than $10 in about a year, making it one of the top-returning assets of any kind. On Wednesday the currency topped $30.

    More from SmartMoney.com:

    • The Invisible Stock Bubble

If returns like those seem otherworldly, perhaps its because Bitcoin is a world unto itself. To recap, it’s is a purely online currency with no intrinsic value; its worth is based solely on the willingness of holders and merchants to accept it in trade. In that respect, it’s not so different from fiat currencies like the dollar or Euro, but whereas governments back such money, Bitcoins lack central control.

In another way, the appeal of the Bitcoin echoes the appeal of gold. Instead of a central bank, a computer algorithm dictates their supply.”

Tom, what event causes you to pronounce the death of the Westphalian nation state?

  8. david June 10, 2011

“Jay” is Ed Sebesta, the very model of the left-wing thought controller Woods skewers in this speech. Ed can’t possibly reply to this speech, so he simply doesn’t listen in the first place.

If ONLY the anti-statist racists would agree to work with the anti-statist integrationists we would get someplace.

For Libertarians, Jay, I think 21,000 is quite a bit of views, especially when it’s been less than 2 weeks..

  11. Jay June 10, 2011

Since when is 21,000 views an internet sensation?

  12. david June 10, 2011

Woods did not speak about distributism in this speech.

  13. Thomas L. Knapp June 10, 2011

Within the context of the Westphalian nation-state, nullification and states’ rights make some sense.

However, the Westphalian nation-state died recently (possibly as late as last week, but probably somewhat earlier).

Even if it flops around for a long time like a chicken with its head cut off, its era is over, so investing in strategies that are relevant only to it seems like a digression.

  14. Robert Stark June 10, 2011

I attended the event and Woods gave an excellent speech about Nullification and State Rights. Most of what he said was right on. However I take issue with his attacks against Distributism which is one of the only real alternative to monopoly economics.
