Robert Owens, who is an Independent candidate for Attorney General in Ohio, recently sent out a press release regarding his standing up to the corruption of former Attorney General Marc Dann, whose appointments are still permeating the same culture of corruption that led to his resignation.
On Thursday, Robert Owens again showed the kind of leadership we need as attorney general, fighting corruption that endangers Ohio families. Robert delivered a stirring speech to the Ohio Peace Officers Training Commission (OPOTC) about some of the problems inside the OPOT Academy.
Numerous OPOTA staff and other law enforcement personnel in attendance thanked and applauded Robert for his courage to speak out on the issue. Among those was Lt. Theresa Shean, a 24-year veteran of the Huron County Sheriff’s Department, who made an impassioned plea with the commissioners to do something about the lack of leadership that is destroying the integrity of OPOTA.
Former prosecutor Robert Owens explained how OPOTA Executive Director Tomi Dorris, a holdover from the Marc Dann administration, openly violated Ohio law, the ramifications of which are severe. Dorris, in conjunction with then-AG Marc Dann, granted police a 90-day extension of time to complete their Continuing Professional Training (also known as CPT) without any legal authority to do so.
This means that hundreds of peace officers statewide falsely believed they were in compliance with their CPT when they were not. All of the arrests – all of the official activities – of hundreds of officers statewide are technically not legal.
A poll that IPR had previously posted about has now been released to the public and further breakdown of the numbers is possible. While polling numbers, especially for third party candidates, are often unreliable–numbers for higher polling candidates are demonstrably realistic.
Owens is the only Independent in the AG race and is facing Republican candidate Mike Crites and Democratic candidate Richard Cordray (D). As previously reported, the base polling numbers statewide are 33% for Crites, 44% for Cordray, and 13% for Owens. However, breaking the numbers into demographics and age groups has revealed some interesting tendencies of his campaign’s voter base.
For example, Owens polls 17% amongst males, but only 9% amongst females. Additionally, he polls 15% amongst voters beneath the age of 50, and only 11% for those above that age. Amongst whites and blacks, Owens polls 14% and 2%,respectively.
Most impressively, Owens polls 34% amongst independents–over 5% higher than either of the other candidates. Perhaps the most confusion part of the polling data is that Mr. Owens polls 17% and 14% amongst moderates and liberals respectively–but a paltry 9% amongst conservatives. Considering Robert Owens is the state chair of the conservative Constitution Party of Ohio and an organizer for the John Birch Society, one would think he would be doing best amongst conservatives, rather than worst. Still, Owens was polling 1% in late August–so this is a big improvement.

“Here’s why Trent had to leave the CP: He gets the joke above.”
Pft–lots of CPers would have gotten that joke. I left because the MAJORITY (and especially the leadership) is protectionist, unimaginative, moralist, and have no cohesive strategy to win.
Robert Owens is a dedicated candidate, and as Attorney General, I look forward to his role in “educating” our Ohio government in how it is supposed to be run. We’ve had too much of the same two parties ruling in Ohio with their plush handouts to party members. It is time that someone stepped up to the role of cleaning up Ohio, and that person is Robert Owens.
As a proud Libertarian, I’m glad that he is running as an independent with multiple party endorsements (mine being one)! I hope others in Ohio will support Independent and Libertarian candidates on the ballot! http://www.lpo.org

Conservatism = Bush Worship, period.
Not necessarily.
I’ve worshiped some bush on occasion, but I’m no conservative.
YOU would, but I wouldn’t.
Conservatism = Bush Worship, period. That’s it, that’s all. Call yourselves something else if you don’t want to be swept up in that group.
OK, done.
Im exhausted and going to bed—but if you’d like to you have my permission.
You should break that last paragraph up, it would be easier to read.
Lots of poll numbers there–oh well. I thought it was interesting.
