Trump is at it again:

Trump told CNN if he runs, it will be as an independent.

“I would seriously consider [running] as an independent, “Trump said. “I think it’s maybe time for that.

Bloomberg and Trump capture different aspects of Perot circa 1990s…

The only way Trump can run as a candidate is if he can get on the ballot, and the only parties available for him are the Ds, Rs and Ls, none of which will nominate him.

I would not rule out the Republicans nominating him, as he was a front runner before dropping out. However, I expect that if he was to drop back in he would have to explain why he dropped out, plus the lost momentum…

Libertarians may still be too principled to nominate Trump, but I wouldn’t bet on that. It’s more likely that he would reject the LP than the other way around.

The only other option is Americans Elect, but I doubt he can convince the folks who control it to nominate him. Americans Elect are said to be putting $20million into ballot access. It’s a very secretive group that is probably a front for a Bloomberg/Petraus ticket,

Probably, but I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of a Trump ticket. If nothing else, they may want to let him run for it to make it look competitive, even if it isn’t.

which would guarantee that Obama is re-elected.

How/why? Bloomberg may be elected himself. If he’s not, it’s not clear whether he would hurt Obama or the Republicans more.

I can see it now- Trump as the candidate of Americans Elect!

Possible, tho Bloomberg is more likely.

if it was between Obama, Romney, and Trump…well then I guess Trump would have my vote. But chances are there will be a couple other great candidates from the other smaller parties, and I think I would rather vote for one of them.

Donald Trump is a blowhard. I suspect he’s just saying this to stay in the headlines.

Google “Americans Elect launches centrist third-party bid” and read the very interesting Christian Science Monitor article. It’s some spooky dudes! 😉

Don, I think you are confused about what the Independent Institute is. It is a libertarian (small l) think tank. It is not aimed at independents per se.
