Third Party Watch founder Austin Cassidy has agreed to join Independent Political Report as Publisher and Managing Partner. Says Mr. Cassidy:
I started Third Party Watch because I thought there was a need for a largely objective news source that covered the so called “periphery” of American politics. The site was successful, but I think the need still exists today and that’s why I’m really excited to be playing a role in creating the new Independent Political Report.
Mr. Cassidy will also lend his business acumen and technical skills to IPR, and he has already helped out with a few site glitches.
Austin Cassidy founded Third Party Watch in May, 2005. After building it up into the premiere source for third-party-politics news, he sold it to Stephen Gordon in late 2007. This past weekend, Mr. Gordon sold TPW to Republican fundraiser Richard Viguerie.
Mr. Cassidy joins former TPW contributors Thomas L. Knapp and Trent Hill in making the exodus from TPW to IPR.

So far, it seems like they’re doing a better job of covering other third parties than TPW did, even under Stephen Gordon.
I offered to write for them, and I’m working for a Green/Independent, so we’ll so what happens.

Is this site going to cover more than just the CP and the LP? I remain interested in what’s going on with the Greens and others (Nader, Keyes, Prohibition party, socialist parties etc). Thanx!

I’m sure they’ve got other things to do than to specifically target links to this site. At least, I think they do. It was probably just caught in a spam filter. You’d be amazed how much spam popular sites get pounded with.
Yet another positive for the registration model that G.E. has put into place here. That and someone who posts the word “ass” fifteen times in every response can be blocked easily enough.

I had gone to the Third Party Watch and was disgusted at the type of comments that were being made. I want to know what it would take to actually put a serious Third Party candidate in the Presidency. This Barr guy seems like a party switcher or user. What do you guys look like? Skinheads? Bush lookalikes? Funny you should have Darcy G Richardson’s books featured on your site. I am currently reading A Nation Divided and the amount of detail is astonishing. It reads very well and recommend it. Many insights into the 1968 Presidential campaign. I am looking forward to you getting up and running.

Moderating comments on a normally free site demonstrates a crack down on dissent. That is key to the ending of a site.

I see that Darcy Richardson’s Others is featured in the advertising sidebar. I’ve been distracted from reading lately, but am well into the second volume. I’m bringing it and the third volume with me for the trip to Denver, although I hope I’ll have little time to read. Great stuff.
