Evan Falchuk, United Independent Party Candidate for Governor, Submits Required 10,000 Voter Signatures to Election Officials
BOSTON – Evan Falchuk, United Independent Party candidate for Governor of Massachusetts, today announced he and his campaign team have collected over 13,000 voter signatures from 237 Massachusetts cities and towns for certification by local election officials, after just four weeks of signature-gathering efforts.
The voter signatures are the first in a continuing batch of what Falchuk expects to reach a total of at least 16,000 signatures by month’s end. By filing these signatures for certification, Falchuk takes another concrete step toward earning a slot on the ballot in the race for governor – over two months ahead of the Commonwealth’s July 29th deadline. Falchuk will be delivering signatures to the Secretary of State’s office as they are certified.
“I’m grateful to so many voters for being open to seeing an independent candidate calling for smart, brave reform on the ballot this year. We continue to run a very deliberate, well-thought-out campaign,” Falchuk noted, adding that given the additional hurdles independent candidates for office in Massachusetts face, a candidate cannot be viable without this carefully planned and executed approach.
“We view my United Independent Party run for governor as being made up of three ‘wins,’” Falchuk said. “We’ve already achieved two of the three: according to Western New England University’s most recent poll, we’ve already achieved the numbers we’d need for the United Independent Party to become an official party in Massachusetts alongside Democrats and Republicans.
“Second,” he noted, “we acted early and aggressively to deliver the many required voter signatures well in advance of deadline, with additional signatures already in the pipeline.”
The third win is Election Day 2014, Falchuk added. “In our continuing call for smart, brave reform of our politics, economy and government, we’ll continue to work hard to earn every single vote,” he said. “The timing is right, and people are absolutely ready for the smart, new party vision we’re creating with the United Independent Party. We’re working hard to prove every naysayer wrong, and in the process usher in common-sense, accountable governing and policy that make a real difference for every family and small business throughout the Commonwealth.”
On April 2, Falchuk announced his pick for Lieutenant Governor, Angus Jennings of Concord, a housing and land use expert. “I know when it comes to meeting our housing and economic development needs through coordinated state and local policy, in Angus we’d have someone with the skills, relationships, experience and passion to build thriving communities,” Falchuk said at the time of announcing Jennings joining the campaign and forming the Falchuk-Jennings ticket. “That’s a big part of the smart, brave reform that is a foundation of this campaign.”
