Libertarian Party congratulates President Barack Obama

Press Release from LPHQ:

America’s Third-Largest Political Party Comments on Obama’s Inauguration as the 44th President of the United States

“Congratulations to President Barack Obama on his inauguration as the 44th President of the United States,” says Libertarian Party National Chairman William Redpath. “I think all Americans ultimately want what libertarians want—peace, prosperity and freedom. If President Obama and the 111th and 112th Congresses succeed in bringing us all that, they will truly be heroes to this nation.”

“However, because so many people, including libertarians, are skeptical that they will do so with the current and proposed public policies,” says Redpath, “the Libertarian Party will continue to exist and grow, and propose and diligently work for the policies that we think will bring this nation peace, prosperity and freedom.”

“I hope President Obama is extremely serious about terminating government programs that are found to be ineffective, as he stated in his inaugural address,” Redpath continues. “He’ll have to be to succeed in doing that. If fair judgments are made about all federal government programs, we should see a reduction in the size of the federal government that the Republican Party was never able to achieve.”

“I also was heartened to see President Obama speak of respect for market economies and responsibility to oneself before responsibility to the nation and the world,” says Redpath. “But, to induce the American people to be more responsible, they will need to be given more freedom from government coercion. Responsibility and freedom are the two sides of the same coin.”

“President Obama has distinguished himself as a great orator, and in that regard, I respectfully ask him to do one thing: not to cheapen the word ‘freedom,’ as so many of his predecessors have done. While I am not suggesting that the United States become something other than a democratic republic, past presidents have suggested that because we have a democracy that we are ‘free.’ Freedom means living one’s life as one chooses, as long as one does not harm other people or their property, and the simple existence of democracy does not guarantee that. Only proper public policies will,” Redpath explains.

“If President Obama pursues policies of economic freedom, which is the historical fundamental reason for this world’s prosperity, and personal freedom, we will have a prosperous, harmonious and just society—and he would go down as a great President,” says Redpath.

    derkel and prospective cumrag,

Obama is threatening my life, I’m within reason to attack my enemies.

    Facts

    socialism is uber failure

libertarianism works, when you actually practice it. The only problem is that, in factional governments, we tolerate socialist bastards, and unfortunately, their rhetoric, eventually, catches on, due to the fact that education is socialized, the socialists run the schools, so we’re left with millions of new socialists being pumped out of the state’s ass every year.

@15 “I will support you when you choose to do things which decreases the size, scope and power of government, and I will oppose you when you choose to increase the size, scope and power of government at any level for any purpose.”

Wow, Jeff. That sounds like the platform Tom Knapp wrote for The Boston Tea Party.

  3. Prospective Advertiser January 23, 2009

@12 No, Ross. It seems clear that Libertarian Joseph was born at night. Last night!

  4. Melty January 23, 2009

    I like the non-militant tone.

I’m glad there’s no mention of skin color too, which I see as entirely insignificant. Romney’s darker than Obama anyhow.

The Communist Party of China is “communist” in name only these days. It is really the Fascist Capitalist Party just like the U.S. Democratic Party is really the Demosocialist Party and the Republican Party is the Theopublican Party.

Likewise, the Libertarian Party USA is now “Libertarian” in name only. It is really the Paleoconservative Party with a paleoconservativepath as it’s national director.

Good thing Obama took a second inaugural oath yesterday, otherwise the likes of Gail Lightfoot would stupidly challenge the legitimacy of his presidency from that angle too.

    Ross,

I have always found it ironic some in the LP attack the Republicrat sheeple for blindly following a candidate, yet they blindly attack a candidate for not being a libertarian.

    Libertarian Joseph,

I’m hardly a socialist for not being a complete political hack such as yourself.

Criticism will come when he does something to deserve it. Just blindly criticizing someone for the hell of it makes you a pathetic douche bag.

The LP looks to be making the same policy towards Obama that I have:

Today is a great day for our country. While we haven’t solved our issues with race, by electing Mr. Obama as President we have moved one step closer. Despite policy differences, all reasonable Americans should be able, especially today, to say congratulations to President Obama. He has smashed that glass ceiling for African-Americans, and that is something to be proud of.

With that in mind, I will make the same pledge to Obama as to do to all public officials: I will support you when you choose to do things which decreases the size, scope and power of government, and I will oppose you when you choose to increase the size, scope and power of government at any level for any purpose.

Let the first 100 days begin.

That’s fucking pathetic. Why didn’t Redpath issue a press release asking for the long-form vital statistics records of the President-elect? It’s what Redpath will have to present to get his REAL ID drivers’ license renewed. Instead, he just decides to lick the bunghole of the naked Emporer. Redpath apparently is just another anti-American scumbag who doesn’t care about the Constitution and revels in being a slave… not much of a libertarian.

  9. Libertarian Joseph January 22, 2009

Obama is going to destroy the economy. Well, Obama and the lame duck, rubber stamp, they call congress. isn’t that a good reason to attack? lol

  10. Ross Levin January 22, 2009

You were born under George W. Bush, right?

  11. Libertarian Joseph January 22, 2009

I would’ve probably have liked Reagan’s rhetoric, though, that is, if I were a libertarian during that time. He said alot of nice things, yet, however, was a miserable failure in policy imo.

  12. Ross Levin January 22, 2009

Which president since you’ve been alive has met your standards?

  13. Libertarian Joseph January 22, 2009

errr “quality of life” rather. it has never been good, but it has nevr gotten better, either

  14. Libertarian Joseph January 22, 2009

I attack people that threaten my way of life. That goes for virtually every POTUS since I’ve been alive.

  15. Libertarian Joseph January 22, 2009

You’re just saying that because you’re a socialist loon, derkel. Grow a brain.

  16. Ross Levin January 22, 2009

Agreed, derkel. Good for the LP for being gracious and yet still getting their message out. And apparently this was one of their more effective press releases.

  17. derkel January 22, 2009

    Libertarian Joseph,

Why would you attack a President when he has been in office 2 days. You are no better than the sheeple that fill the Republicrat ranks.

  18. Catholic Trotskyist January 22, 2009

Thanks Libertarian Party for your gracious congratulations upon this, the beginning of the takeover of Catholic Trotskyism. Joseph, how’s that attack going? It seems to be doing a lot of good so far, not.

  19. Libertarian Joseph January 21, 2009

Why congratulate this douchebag? We should be going on the attack.
