More late-blogging than live-blogging. Nonetheless:
We create a pipeline to channel state events to the national social media. Everything we do should recruit members, get publicity, and raise money. Idea: Go to a public meeting of a council or board. Have a line of people, each giving part of a speech, to give a long speech even when there are time limits. Do video capture of your speech which people see is in City Council chambers. Then disseminate. The speaker then listed a series of opportunity events. Wants local groups to forward to him local events which can be publicized nationally.
Secretary complains that people are not submitting written reports, because if they do not the Secretary must generate a transcript of what was said.
Chair says that there is a limit to what can be done by committee and staff, triaging may be needed, but she wants an active committee. Executive Director says there are email issues that will be cured. Tuniewicz asks where videos will be posted. Ford gives detailed answer. Objective is to drive traffic to state and local groups. Detailed policies where things are sent are not yet there. Chair suggests scope of the Affiliate Support Committee may be getting too wide, and some thought is needed.
Secretary: Give and get programs. Staff financial report shows how much money LNC members are giving or raising. There are comments on Facebook. As board members, we need to be among our biggest fundraisers or donors. The last LNC was about tied with us, social media critics to the contrary. Secretary proposes that each LNC member should give or get $500 as part of a gentleman’s agreement.
Chair: Issues with counting, because some money passes through party channels, such as fundraising letters and fundraising events, but isn’t counted to me.
Question Someone wants a more formal process. Tuniewicz: Please start at the start of our terms; I’ve already given a lot of money. Other expressed concern that this proposal would put a burden on the staff. Elliot opposed: A typical board is older successful people. We aren’t like that. We need to make the organization more successful, and then the money comes in. Cowen strongly opposed. We already spend enough money on being lnc members. Hagopian: Raise money, with one objective for the LNC as a whole. Secretary: I am surprised that there is opposition. How can this be controversial? Someone: I firmly support as do my state chairs. There was an amendment. Vote was 7-8-1 against, the chair breaking the tie. Original motion passes, 11-3.
Add Mr. Dassing to social media committee. Chair notes she gets to appoint, and does so.
Leadership Institute Training: Request for update. Past efforts have done poorly…political fighting between Leadership Institute and Libertarians on topics disrupted efforts. McArdle says we are a party and will therefore be polite because they do not charge us much. She is extremely emphatic that this issue will not arise. Questions as to whether LNC or state is paying, and how much.
