Green Party presidential hopefuls recently participated in candidate panels held in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. Both panels were hosted by local Green Party members and featured several candidates actively seeking the nomination.
On January 20, the Green-Rainbow Party of Massachusetts organized a presidential candidate meet-and-greet panel in Worcester. The panel was held at a local Unitarian church and featured five of the six Green Party presidential candidates recognized by the Massachusetts affiliate. They included Dr. Jill Stein, Jasmine Sherman, Randy Toler, Jorge Zavala, and DeShaun “Davi” Davis. Notably, Toler and Zavala participated in the event remotely.
Candidates fielded questions from audience members in a town hall-style format. While most questions pertained to specific policy aims and how individual candidates would implement them in their campaigns, there were also moments when audience members asked about the nomination process and ballot access. Particularly notable was a heated moment regarding perceived unfairness in the Green Party’s primary process, namely in California.

Several days later, on January 23, four of the five candidates who had participated in the previous panel also took part in another discussion hosted by the Green Party of Philadelphia. This panel was held at the Poor People’s Economic and Human Rights Campaign office and was moderated by election inspectors associated with the Green Party. Dr. Jill Stein, Jasmine Sherman, Jorge Zavala, and DeShaun “Davi” Davis attended, with some again joining remotely.
According to the Pennsylvania Capital Star, which covered the event, candidates had opportunities to highlight specific policy initiatives to distinguish themselves from their fellow challengers. For instance, Davi presented his “America Refresh” plan, while Zavala emphasized things like green technology. However, there was considerable agreement among candidates on the need to address climate change, affordable housing, and criminal justice reform, as well as on reintegrating individuals returning from prison into society.
