Nonprofit Group Voto Latino Finds Nearly One-Fifth of Latino Voters Lean Toward Third Party and Independent Presidential Options

A recent poll by the nonprofit group Voto Latino finds that nearly one-fifth of Latino voters prefer a third party or independent candidate over Democratic President Joe Biden and Republican former President Donald Trump if given the option.

The poll, which was conducted by the Democratic pollster Greenberg Quinlan Rosner, surveyed 2,000 registered Latino voters from the swing states of Arizona, North Carolina, Nevada, Texas, and Pennsylvania over 13 days. It aimed to explore whether Latino voters are shifting away from the Democratic Party and included both a match-up between Biden and Trump, as well as a five-way race that included Green Party candidate Jill Stein and independents Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cornel West.

According to a press release discussing the results from Voto Latino, while the survey showed no significant “rightward shift,” a notable number of Latino voters expressed a serious degree of consideration for third party and independent candidates when given the chance.

By themselves, Joe Biden leads Donald Trump in a head-to-head matchup with 59% to 39%. However, when including Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West, and Jill Stein in the survey, Biden’s support among Latino voters drops to 47%, with Trump slightly behind at 34%. Meanwhile, Kennedy receives 12%, West nets 3%, and Stein earns 2%, showing a potential fragmentation of the Latino vote.

While specific crosstabs are not included in the release, the organization notes that Latina voters aged 18 to 49 are particularly showing frustration with current economic conditions and are more inclined to consider third party and independent options as a result, noting that 62% of those who said they would support such candidates are women.

Voto Latino additionally attributed uncertainty among Latino voters about Kennedy’s policy positions as a potential reason for the shift toward his campaign.

How do you mean? If there were any candidates of that caliber, they would need to be elected. But there aren’t and, alas, never have been in the US at a federal level.

“What we need is an Augusto Pinochet sans the nationalization of privately owned and operated copper mines”

Wouldn’t that be extra-constitutional? How would that be accomplished?

Is there El Partido Libertad in our future? It could combine free trade and liberal immigration with deregulation and free market capitalism to take votes from both major parties.
