Delaware Students to Vote in Statewide Mock Election Featuring Presidential Race

Public and charter school students in Delaware will participate in a statewide mock election organized by the University of Delaware this week, where they will vote on several races from the upcoming general election ballot, including the presidential race.

The mock election is organized by the Institute for Public Administration’s Democracy Project at the University of Delaware, along with the Social Studies Coalition of Delaware and the Delaware Department of Elections. The project is offered to middle and high school students and allows them to participate in a non-binding election of Delaware’s statewide and federal races. The mock election will take place in participating schools this Wednesday and Thursday.

Presidential candidates on the mock ballot include Republicans Donald Trump and J.D. Vance, Democrats Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, the Conservative ticket of Vermin Supreme and Jonathan Realz, Libertarians Chase Oliver and Mike ter Maat, and the Independent Party of Delaware ticket of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Nicole Shanahan.

The ballot will also feature the state’s U.S. Senate, congressional, gubernatorial, and insurance commissioner elections, all of which only have Republican and Democratic candidates this year, with the exception of the U.S. Senate race.

Notably, an earlier candidate list of candidates produced by the state omitted Vermin Supreme and Jonathan Realz from the mock ballot. This was corrected over the weekend and the two are expected to be listed for this week.

Approximately 9,000 students participated in the 2020 mock election, according to past results. Students overwhelmingly supported then-Vice President Joe Biden, who received 71.3% of votes cast across thirteen school districts and three charter schools. The 2020 mock ballot also offered a wider variety of candidate choices for the federal and several statewide races, with multiple options for every non-presidential race except the lieutenant governor and insurance commissioner elections.

Delaware is also not the only state to hold a mock election for its students. Last month, California organized a similar event with 71,098 students participating in a mock election conducted by the Secretary of State’s office.

In that election, students preferred Democrat Kamala Harris, who received 48.69% of the vote, over Republican Donald Trump with 35.24%, Socialism and Liberation nominee Claudia De la Cruz with 6.84%, independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. with 6.03%, Green nominee Jill Stein with 1.89%, and Libertarian nominee Chase Oliver with 1.3%.

“Students overwhelmingly supported then-Democratic Vice President Joe Biden, who received 71.3% of votes cast across thirteen school districts and three charter schools.”

Wouldn’t it have been interesting if the… *checks notes* “Joseph R. Biden, Jr. School of Public Policy and Administration” *suppresses snort* …had bothered to release the results for public and charter schools separately, so that we can see how extreme the indoctrination at the former has become.
