Pirate National Committee Endorses Green Candidate Pete Karas in Wisconsin

The Pirate National Committee has voted to endorse Green Party candidate Pete Karas in his bid for Wisconsin Secretary of State, approving the endorsement by a unanimous vote.

The endorsement was made April 19 during a meeting of the Pirate National Committee, with all members in attendance backing the decision. It followed Karas’ appearance on Talk the Plank!, the Pirate Party’s official monthly podcast, where he discussed his campaign with party members and supporters ahead of the vote.

In a statement the following day, the party said it “took great pride” in the endorsement, calling it an example of “the spirit of minor party unity against the control of the duopoly.”

“Even without having an active Wisconsin Pirate Party, it is gratifying to be able to lend our support to someone seeking the betterment of all Wisconsinites,” the party said.

Karas is a member of the Wisconsin Green Party, where he chairs its Elections Committee and represents the 5th Congressional District. He oversaw the party’s candidate recruitment efforts this election cycle, including launching his own statewide bid in early 2025.

Upon receiving the endorsement, the Karas campaign said it was “both excited and honored,” adding in a social media post that while Karas is running as a Green candidate, the campaign is “all about breaking down the barriers for third-party candidates and building a unity campaign to fight the corrupt two-party system.”

Karas must submit between 2,000 and 4,000 valid signatures by early June to qualify for the August partisan primary ballot. As the only Green Party candidate, he would advance to the general election.
