PSL candidates join Iowa flood relief effort

Yesterday, IPR pointed readers to a statement and list of demands made by the Party for Socialism and Liberation‘s presidential ticket on behalf of victims of the recent wide-scale flooding in Iowa.

Backing words with action, presidential candidate Gloria La Riva, Illionois Assembly candidate John Beacham and Chicago organizer Stefanie Fisher have traveled to Iowa to volunteer their services in the ongoing emergency sandbagging effort. According to the party’s website, “the delegation is carrying out on-the-spot fact-finding, and issuing reports for PSLweb.org and Liberation Newspaper; showing solidarity with the people there who are suffering from the floods; and beginning a political campaign to demand real action by the government.”

So far, the socialist trio has reported residents’ dissatisfaction with FEMA relief efforts, and a positive response to their call for more federal aid.

The party notes that the trip was organized in haste, and is appealing for donations to cover travel expenses.
