The Green Party of Florida received permission yesterday to investigate the “Florida Five,” five candidates who payed their filing fees at the very last minute, in contested state legislature races. There is belief that the candidates were all Republican plants, but there’s no complete evidence.

Pasco County Circuit Judge Stanley Mills is allowing the Greens to subpoena testimony and records to get to the bottom of who, if anyone, was behind the effort, although the candidates ultimately had little or no impact on the elections.

The FL Greens should also use this situation to promote instant runoff voting. Man, it must be terrible to be Green in Florida and have people yell at you all the time about Nader.
And then there is the ‘Reformist’ ‘Independence’ ‘Frank MacKay’ tainted “Independent [so called] Green movement’! Beware: ‘Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves’………..

That said…
I think that it is an AWESOME strategy to tease out this problem to the bitter end. I thank the Florida Green Party for taking this situation – where another party probably played dirty tricks by putting up fake green candidates – and hunting down the issue until the truth is revealed.
There are a lot of Democrats who believe and/or fear that the Green Party is a tool of the Republicans. Doing this adventure, and seeing who is truly behind a pitiful attempt to be spoilers, should give the Green Party some credibility.
I also hope that doing this may discourage other people or parties from trying to abuse third party ballot lines in the future.
