New PPP poll has Green candidate for governor in Illinois at 9% support

Following a poll on the Senate race in Illinois that had the Green candidate at 14 percent, a poll released today from PPP shows Green candidate for governor Rich Whitney – who received about 10.5 percent of the vote in 2006 – garnering 9 percent of the vote.  At this point in the polls in 2006, Whitney was not even included in any polls, but he was in the low single digits in August (see here).

Interestingly, Whitney was only seen favorably by 5 percent of those polled, much as Senate candidate LeAlan Jones only had 2 percent say they had a favorable opinion of him.  For both Greens, 80 percent or more of the respondents didn’t have an opinion one way or the other, showing that the biggest challenge in their campaigns might simply be making the Illinois electorate aware that they exist as an option.

The full poll results can be seen here.

How about letting people know you exist then. They don’t have a Facebook group. I’m not saying that it is mandatory or anything, but its free netroots. I manage the Green Party of Ohio Facebook group (it’s actually where my name’s hyperlink goes). Which has 230 members. The Libertarian Party of Ohio’s group has 1,500.

Also worth noting is that the GOP candidate for governor has a high percentage of people saying they don’t know much about him, either. Look (Bill Brady is with the GOP, Pat Quinn with the Dems):

Q1 Do you approve or disapprove of Governor Pat
    Quinn’s job performance?
    Approve …………………………………………………. 27%
    Disapprove……………………………………………… 50%
    Not Sure…………………………………………………. 23%

Q2 Do you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion
    of Bill Brady?
    Favorable……………………………………………….. 22%
    Unfavorable ……………………………………………. 22%
    Not Sure…………………………………………………. 56%

Q3 Do you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion
    of Rich Whitney?
    Favorable……………………………………………….. 5%
    Unfavorable ……………………………………………. 15%
    Not Sure…………………………………………………. 80%

That’s weird, it didn’t come up when I searched for “Green Party of Illinois” or “Illinois Green Party”. Facebook’s search is buggy.

AUSTIN — A top Republican lawyer has been hired to represent the Texas Green Party against efforts to identify a mystery donor who paid to put the party on the fall ballot.

Democrats have filed suit, claiming the petition drive for the Green Party was an effort to help Gov. Rick Perry and other Republicans.
