Peg Dunmire News Roundup

  • First, an upcoming event for the campaign from Doug Guetzloe:

(Orlando) Tea Party Congressional nominee Peg Dunmire is holding a Salute to the 2nd Amendment this evening (Monday, September 27, 2010) at a local gun range.  The event is billed as “Women’s Night” at Shoot Straight, 1349 South Orange Blossom Trail, Apopka, Florida 32703.

“As a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment and the right to bear arms, it is important that all citizens, especially women, not only support the right but become actively engaged in their own self defense and the defense of their families,” stated Dunmire.

The event is open to the public, and the cost is $30 that includes ammunition and all costs.  You can bring your own gun or one will be provided for you.  The cost also includes training on gun safety.

The event will be held from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Dunmire is the first official nominee for the US Congress of the new TEA Party, an official political party in the State of Florida.

  • Sometime IPR contributor Darcy Richardson at Uncovered Politics drops the huge news that Dunmire is dropping $250k into the race. Excepting perhaps Glenn Wilson in MI-01, it appears that no other third party candidacy for US House will rival her financial investment this cycle. The whole article is worth a read.

The TEA Party’s Peg Dunmire, who recently committed a quarter of a million dollars of her own money in Florida’s hotly-contested eighth congressional district race against liberal Democratic firebrand Alan Grayson and Republican challenger Daniel Webster, has released her second television commercial of the campaign.

A previous Dunmire ad featured voters belonging to the two major parties who said that they were opting to vote for the TEA Party candidate this year, and concluded with the former hospital administrator and ex-Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin pictured together.

Dubbed “Year of the Tea Party Woman,” Dunmire’s new 30-second spot, produced by Cinematic Expressions, an Orlando-based video production company, began airing on television stations in the Central Florida district yesterday.

  • Dunmire is at 7% in a recent poll of the race. The pollster is generally a Republican one, but it appears to have a pretty accurate streak in Florida. However, this poll was taken before the candidate injected her money into the campaign, so expect higher name recognition and support for Dunmire in the next poll of the race.

THE WICKED WITCH OF THE EAST?

O’Donnell finds herself trying to balance face time with reporters with getting out and meeting voters. But the vast video record she’s compiled over nearly 20 years continues to draw attention.

Maher, who now boasts that he “created” O’Donnell, is using their past on-air relationship to try to attract viewers to his new HBO show, “Real Time With Bill Maher.” Since last month’s GOP primary, he has aired clips from previous tapings of “Politically Incorrect.”

In one, O’Donnell notes that she “dabbled into witchcraft” in high school (she has since made light of the comment). On another, she declares that “evolution is myth.”

On a clip aired Friday night, from July 1999, she says with a laugh that she tried several religions but skipped becoming a Hare Krishna because she didn’t want to be vegetarian.

I saw that ad, the production value wasn’t very high but that just shows me that this is a real grassroots campaign. It was still a good ad, and I like dunmire and her use of real people in her ads, not paid actors. Dunire is for real, I’m gonna vote for her.

Yeah Peg drop $250k of her own money in this race, that means she can’t be bought. She is the one to beat. Calling all conservatives, Vote Dunmire for congress!

Peg is on the path to victory. Did anyone see that RV driving around Otown? It is awesome! Everywhere I go I see Dunmire! I think she’s got in the bag.

We need someone to stand -up to the special interests, and the career politicians, Dunmire is the one.

Don’t worry about what the polls say. All the Tea Party candidates have been down in the polls and gone on to win on election day. What is that now… 8 victories in a row! 1 or 2 might be a fluke, but after 8 the writing is clearly on the wall.

“The base has revolted and sent a clear message to the Republican Party,” Ken Buck, who won Colorado’s GOP Senate nomination with tea party help, told USA TODAY. “The freshman class will challenge the status quo in the Republican conference.”
