Wrights takes Stop All War message to Kentucky, Georgia

BURNET, Texas (March 2) – Potential Libertarian presidential candidate R. Lee Wrights will be in taking his stop all war message to the state Libertarian Party conventions in Kentucky and Georgia over the next two weekends.

Wrights will be he luncheon speaker at the Kentucky LP convention in Maysville March 5. The convention will be held at the French Quarter Inn, 25 E. McDonald Parkway.

The following weekend, Wrights will attend the Georgia state convention which will be held March 11 and 12 at the Atlanta Airport Weston, 4736 Best Rd.

Wrights, 52, is a longtime libertarian writer, political activist, a lifetime member of the Libertarian Party, and a past vice chair of the Libertarian National Committee. He is considering seeking the presidential nomination because he’s determined that the Libertarian message in 2012 be a loud, clear and unequivocal call to stop all war. To that end, Wrights has pledged that 10 percent of all donations to his campaign will go toward ballot access so that the stop all war message can be heard in all 50 states.

Wrights is the co-founder and editor of the free speech online magazine Liberty For All. He is also co-founder and president of the Foundation for a Free Society, an educational organization dedicated to promoting the principles of liberty, personal sovereignty, private property, and free markets in order to create a more free and prosperous society. Born in Winston-Salem, N.C., Wrights now lives in Texas.

Do you have any other reporters who could go without being bums…you know, people who actually have cars and drivers licenses and can afford their own motel rooms?

If anyone is driving through the Tuscaloosa, Alabama area on I-59/20 and would like to give me a ride to the Georgia or Kentucky conventions, I would like to report on them.

    Indeed it is.

A lot of weird in this thread that has nothing to do with the subject, but it’s still a sick world when sex and drugs are viewed as more immoral than war.

Good afternoon. I’m a bigot who hates Muslims, and posted the lyrics of a Muslim-hating song here at IPR because I thought it was really clever. The bonehead who wrote this song killed himself, just like my hero Adolf Hitler. Perhaps I should do the same.

  7. Ovens of Auschwitz March 3, 2011

Hi there. I’m an ignorant bonehead bigot, sexually insecure and deficient in intelligence. I don’t like Jews, Hispanics, Blacks or Muslims. My heroes include Adolf Hitler and a Belgian Bonehead whose hate filled song lyrics I posted here. They both killed themselves. That gives me something to consider as well.

  12. paulie March 3, 2011

    @12 Agreed.

Similarly, I think “stop all war” is a good message that is not stressed enough among Libertarians, so I welcome it. But in general, it would not be enough for Libertarians to stress the peace issue only, just as it is not enough to stress only the economic issues or only the social issues.

There are many non-libertarians who agree with stopping war, including:

-The Catholic Church and others who tend to favor bigger government on social and economic issues, but oppose war.

-Paleoconservatives who oppose war and the welfare state, but support “morality” legislation.

-Progressives who oppose war and moral busybodies acting through the state, but support a greater degree of government intervention/planning of the economy.

    As you say,

Take libertarianism as the whole loaf of bread not just individual slices.

  13. Mike B. March 3, 2011

    Paulie,

Fair enough. I just want Wayne to be more balanced in his criticism and not just side with the right most of the time.

There is plenty things to criticize on the right.

Take libertarianism as the whole loaf of bread not just individual slices.

  14. paulie March 3, 2011

    Mike,

if in 2012 we elect a Republican president will Wayne be equally critical of the president if he or she is hostile towards social progressive issues? Not just economic issues.

Will Wayne forge temporary alliances on the Left like he does with the Right i.e. The Tea Party?

Valid questions. I’d like to know the answer as well. I was only answering your specific question as to whether Wayne has ever addressed the peace issue.

  15. Mike B. March 3, 2011

    @9

Paulie, if in 2012 we elect a Republican president will Wayne be equally critical of the president if he or she is hostile towards social progressive issues? Not just economic issues.

Will Wayne forge temporary alliances on the Left like he does with the Right i.e. The Tea Party?

Wayne says: “Traditional libertarianism mixes in too many things that are liberal. That’s why it doesn’t work. It needs to blend with conservatism.”

    See full quote @8.

  16. paulie March 3, 2011

    Mike B.

    “Where?s Wayne?s anti-war, pro peace articles?”

    https://independentpoliticalreport.com/2009/12/wayne-root-mr-president-end-this-war/

Also, as much as you may criticize this piece,

    In https://independentpoliticalreport.com/2011/02/wayne-root-how-the-media-blew-it-again-the-lessons-we-should-be-learning-from-egyptian-crisis/ Root writes

“#2) It is not the U.S. government?s duty or right to determine other nation?s leaders. Besides, we have an awful track record ? see Vietnam, Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan. At most we should have influence behind the scenes and always in the direction of moderation, reform and democracy.

#3) We should dramatically cut or end foreign aid. The $2 billion per year we borrow from China to give to Egypt is a terrible waste of taxpayer money. And if we bet wrong on Mubarak, and our sophisticated military equipment falls in the hands of Muslim extremists, we have made a tragic error.”

I agree that Root doesn’t stress the peace issue nearly enough for my taste, and conversely one might argue that Wrights should talk about other aspects of government policy besides war and peace in his campaign, especially given the economic climate.

  17. Mike B. March 3, 2011

    Where’s Wayne’s anti-war, pro peace articles?

Perhaps that’s way too liberal for him to write about because we wouldn’t want to offend any Tea Partiers.

Here’s an excerpt from an article that appeared in Vegas Seven Magazine, November 11-17, 2010 edition. Wayne is quoted by saying:

“I’m kind of re-creating libertarianism,” says Wayne Allyn Root. “I’m not just going to follow the traditional roots. I’m a Ronald Reagan libertarian. Traditional libertarianism mixes in too many things that are liberal. That’s why it doesn’t work. It needs to blend with conservatism. And where’s that today! The Tea Party! And that’s why it’s working. I’ve been trying to bring this party along, and it’s beginning to happen.”
    ________________________________

My question is what if a liberal republican said I’m re-creating conservatism. Wouldn’t conservatives be equally offended by that statement?

Try representing the Libertarian Wing of the Libertarian Party.
