Darcy Richardson is the author of a series of books about alternative parties called Others. He is the alternative party movement’s pre-eminent historian. However, he is also running in the Democratic primaries against incumbent President Barack Obama. Richardson is on the ballot in Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Louisiana, and New Hampshire. Richardson has been involved in alternative parties in the past, especially The Consumer Party.
The latest email from Richardson’s campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination:
For obvious reasons, most news coverage of the 2012 New Hampshire presidential primaries focuses on the Republican contest. With rare exceptions, incumbent presidents seeking re-election enjoy a nearly insuperable advantage in their party’s nomination process.
So it’s business as usual in the Granite State, with only one candidate in the Democratic running. Or maybe not quite so usual — because that one candidate isn’t President Barack Obama.
Wait… what?
Section 655:51 of the New Hampshire Election Code required candidates for their party’s presidential nomination to submit slates of national convention delegates to the Secretary of State no later than November 18th, 2011. Only two Democrats did so, and one — Aldous C. Tyler — has since dropped out and endorsed the other, author and political historian Darcy Richardson.
At first blush, that means Obama appears to have surrendered New Hampshire’s national convention votes for his re-nomination.
Unlike the incumbent Democrat, fifteen of the thirty candidates running in New Hampshire’s crowded Republican primary on Tuesday, including all of the major GOP candidates, filed full or nearly complete slates of delegates and alternate delegates.
“I’m sure this was merely an oversight by President Obama’s re-election team,” says Richardson. “Like a bloated bureaucracy, in a billion-dollar campaign like President Obama’s — one that’s literally drenched in Wall Street money — it’s easy to imagine that the left hand doesn’t always know what the right hand is doing.”
Not that he’s complaining, mind you. Richardson, 56, of Jacksonville, Florida, launched his anti-war, anti-Wall-Street, pro-Occupy campaign last fall after his pleas to more well-known progressives to run — former Labor Secretary Robert Reich topped his list — fell on deaf ears.
“The President has very obviously forgotten what the Democratic Party stands for,” he says. “So I can’t say I’m really surprised that he forgot he needs the help of real flesh-and-blood Democrats to get re-elected as well. I haven’t.”
Richardson is on the Democratic primary ballot in several other states, including Missouri, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Texas and will be launching a petition drive for a spot on the Wisconsin ballot tomorrow. “I’m happy to take all the delegates he wants to leave on the table,” says the long-shot challenger. “We’ll be waiting to have a talk with him when he gets to Charlotte next September.”

js @32,
“Obama said on his campaign website that he was born a British national.”
Highly unlikely, but irrelevant even if so. I can say I was born on Jupiter if I like, but the fact will remain that I was born in Memphis.
“Soetoro (aka Obama) ‘s school records said he was Indonesian. His mother’s passport records released by the State Dept last year indicate her son was no longer an American and did not need to remain attached to her passport.”
A minor’s parents cannot legally deprive a child of his or her American citizenship.
“To say the Founders accepted British common law vie a gist citizenship is asinine. That is what the 1776 and 1812 wars were precisely all about.”
Well, yes, that’s what 1775 was about — the Americans wanted “the rights of Englishmen” as had been established in common law, including to be treated as a full citizen if born in the Crown’s jurisdiction. 1776 was about them still not getting those rights.
Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii — a US city in a US state — to an American mother. He is a natural born citizen. You don’t have to like it. It will remain a fact whether you like it or not.
@29 Again your ignorance sens.impenetrable. It was Arthur’s father who was British, a fact that the usurper covered up during his lifetime by lying about his father’s naturalization in the only interview be gave on the matter and destroying his family’s papers
Vie a gist = vis a vis
Viz = vis
*autocorrect
@27- Obama said on his campaign website that he was born a British national.
@28 – Soetoro (aka Obama) ‘s school records said he was Indonesian. His mother’s passport records released by the State Dept last year indicate her son was no longer an American and did not need to remain attached to her passport
@29 – Fortunately the Founders were not as illiterate or jingoistic as you appear to be. Vattell wrote in French not because he was French or writing about French law, but because it was the lingua franca of statecraft. ….Vattel was the standard reference work on natural law vis a viz statecraft. To say the Founders accepted British common law vie a gist citizenship is asinine. That is what the 1776 and 1812 wars were precisely all about. If theyagreed with you on British law being the controlling authority there would have been no Revolution in the first place. Pleas top spreading this antiAmerican British garbage.
@3 Let’s see: We only support institutionalization for crazy people if they are a menace to themselves or other people, but that doesn’t mean we have to waste our time answering their nonsense.
Gingrich is not known to have forsworn his Danish (or Thai)
nationalities.Since I’m even fatter than Gingrich, let me just say this:
HF@28,
“Anyway, since Obama is a natural born US citizen, it’s not an issue.”
One of the arguments advanced to support the claim that he is not a “natural born citizen” is that one of his parents was not an American.
The support I usually see for that claim is from a 1758 French treatise (“The Law of Nations” by Emerich de Vattel). To draw the conclusion the “birthers” do from a French essay written decades before a revolution in a country rooted in English, not French, law is, in a word, crap.
Madison, one of the primary framers of the Constitution, wrote (The Founders’ Constitution Volume 2, Article 1, Section 2, Clause 2, Document 6, 1789) “The children of aliens, born in this state, are considered as natural born subjects, and have the same rights with the rest of the citizens.”
The case law, commentary, etc. of the 19th century is near universal in concurrence with that framer’s clearly stated intent.
If you are born on US soil and one of your parents is not an ambassador or some such not subject to US jurisdiction per se , you are a natural-born citizen, period. If one of your parents is from Antarctica and the other is from Mars, you’re still a natural-born citizen if you were born in Pittsburgh.
That’s one reason the “birthers” ping-pong back and forth between trying to non-citizenize Obama with that kind of legerdemain and trying to move the location of his birth from Hawaii to Kenya.
The precedents are also pretty clear. Chester A. Arthur’s mother was a British subject, just like Obama’s father.
Barry Goldwater was born outside the US.
So was Mitt Romney’s dad, who was at one point a favorite for the GOP’s 1968 presidential nomination.
And so was John McCain.
“Obama did live in Indonesia and went to school there.”
As an American citizen, yes.
” if you believe that he was born in Kenya,”
Or hatched. Aren’t outer space reptilians hatched?
“If McCain was elected, there would be those who would state that he was ineligible because he was born in a Panamanian hospital.”
Also silly. His parents were American.
“But if the PSL can nominate someone who is constitutionally ineligible, why can’t the Democrats or Republicans?”
The question is not who can be nominated, it’s who can be sworn in and serve. PSL does not win presidential elections.
Anyway, since Obama is a natural born US citizen, it’s not an issue.
It’s true that his paperwork was out of order in NH, but the Democrats will just ignore their own rules because he’s the president.
I don’t know if Gingrich ever lived in Denmark or Thailand, but we do know that Obama did live in Indonesia and went to school there. However, that would not bar him from the Presidency as long as he was a resident in the US for at least 14 years.
Since the Constitution states that all of America will have a [small-r] republican form of government, and Chicago has been allowed to keep it’s sometimes-unrepublican machine politics, it could be argued that the federal government thus does not consider Chicago to be a part of the United States. How long has Obama lived in the US outside of Chicago? 🙂
As regards to British nationalism, if you believe that he was born in Kenya, as “just saying” aparently does, then he is a British National as Kenya was a British colony at the time.
If McCain was elected, there would be those who would state that he was ineligible because he was born in a Panamanian hospital.
But if the PSL can nominate someone who is constitutionally ineligible, why can’t the Democrats or Republicans?
What are the DNC regulations on this? Is the New Hampshire primary binding? If it is, perhaps Richardson’s delegates should be seated, but be required to vote for Obama on the first ballot since he got the most votes. They could express their displeasure with Obama by voting for Richardson for Vice-President instead of Biden.
oops that was a HUGE type KISS!
Waiting for the gestapo now…
I love when people claim to understand the laws can’t figure out what a natural born citizen means.
I wonder how Richardson is going to act when his delegates are stolen from him and given to Obama as was done in 2008 with FL and MI Clinton delegates.
The great divider is at it again, bend over democrats and kill his Celebrity in Chief butt.
But isn’t the hockey team the Liberty Penguins? C’mon now!
Ron Paul was born in Pittsburgh. Anyone who’s ever been to yinzer-land knows it is a foreign country, And do libertarians really want to root for a guy who was born in a city that proudly follows a football team called the “Stealers” and a baseball team called the “Pirates?”
Obama is not known to have ever forsworn his British (or Indonesian) nationalities.
Much in the same way as Romney is not known to have ever forsworn his Estonian (or Fijian) nationalities.
Gingrich is not known to have forsworn his Danish (or Thai) nationalities.
Santorum is not known to have forsworn his Korean (or Zimbabwean) nationalities.
Hope this helps.
This is a related story — four New Hampshire legislators challenged the ballot commission recently on Obama’s eligibility. The commission said it wasn’t their business as long as the check cleared.
However, two third-party candidates who were foreign like Obama have been excluded from the presidential ballot in recent years.
The legislators delivered an affidavit to the NH Attorney General today regarding this discrimination against independent candidates. Here is their website:
http://nhcjr.blogspot.com/
Wow, somebody screwed up big time.
This is another example of why it is important to have competent, experienced people in charge of ballot access.
@14 & @17
Obama is not known to have ever forsworn his British (or Indonesian) nationalities.
The gentlemen you mention all did in 1776, however.
Hope this helps.
And here I thought Honolulu was Indonesia, near the coast of Africa!
@Paulie – I am aware of that provision, I was posting those names in response to the comment about “no British Presidents”.
O’Bama is Irish. I saw it on the internet, so it must be true.
That constitutional provision makes an exception for those born before the US revolution.
George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson & William Henry Harrison were all born before the independence of these United States of America. Thus, all were born as “British subjects” and therefore “British”.
@11
Didn’t you know reptilian space aliens have discovered the secret of time travel?
🙂
TLK @ 10,
I have incontrovertible proof that Obama was born a British subject:
There…that settles it!
Wait. I thought Obama was a Kenyan Muslim and his entire political career is part of some grand conspiracy that included knowing that he would be President before he was even born. Now he’s British? I can’t keep up.
@7,
“Sure thing. I cite the U.S. Constitution. No British Presidents.”
Get an atlas. Honolulu is in Hawaii, which was a US state, not a British possession, at the time of his birth.
@7
Obama was born in Hawaii, USA…deal with that.
Peter, Peter, Peter…I love your sense of humor! You da man!
Best,
Berack
PS Please give a call anytime, we’ve just got to get together. Don’t you even remember what happened in ’95? You know, Spitzer?
@4 — Sure thing. I cite the U.S. Constitution. No British Presidents.
Just because you hate America and want it to be subject to a foreign dictator doesn’t mean I have to agree with you. Deal with it.
British/Indonesia Obama
You’re one of the last ones holding on to this tired old canard like grim death, so for the love of all that’s holy…give it up, will you? If not for your own sake, then for the sake of friends and family who are embarrassed to tears by your abject foolishness.
You got reasons you don’t like Obama as president? Fine. Cite them. But stick to the ones that have some basis in reality, would you? But truly, you sound like a raving loon when all you have to bring to the party is this discredited nonsense.
You lost.
Get over it.
Move on.
I wonder how the ballott commission will justify this?
They have previously claimed it wasn’t their responsibility to vet the British/Indonesia Obama for eligibility has long as his check cleared… and then it came out they have previously disallowed other foreigners from the ballot.
Now they have to go back and break the rules again to get this clown some delegates… what a joke.
“… in a billion-dollar campaign like President Obama’s — one that’s literally drenched in Wall Street money — it’s easy to imagine that the left hand doesn’t always know what the right hand is doing.”
OR… the left hand doesn’t know what the other left hand is doing! (Who needs a right wing anyway!)
Obama’s Re-election Staff must be like him on economic issues.
CLUELESS !!!
