Posted to the LNC list by Chair Geoff Neale:
I am putting the election of LNC chosen Convention Committee members on the agenda for the next LNC meeting. I do not want to waste any time at all, so I am proposing the following:
At a very early time in the agenda on Saturday, nominations will be opened for each Convention Committee one at a time. All prior submissions made will be reported and accepted. Subsequent nominations from the floor will be recorded. We will NOT vote upon closing the nominations. Once all nominations for all committees have been made and closed, we will have formal printed ballots created by staff and the Secretary. These ballots will be distributed to each LN member as soon as possible, definitely prior to close of the Saturday session. The deadline for submitting the ballots will be approximately one hour after the beginning of the Sunday session. During the Sunday session, the results will be tabulated and reported.
Please note that there will be NO nomination speeches allowed. Instead, nominees can submit written qualifications.
Since we also have the imperative of appointing an interim chair for each committee, I am proposing that the highest vote recipient be so appointed. In the case of a tie, we will resolve the tie by lowest alphabetically by last name.
Please help me figure out if there’s an even less intrusive manner in which we can hold these elections.
BTW – the committees and our appointments are:
Bylaws – ten members, all chosen by the LNC, no more than five of which can be LNC members.
Credentials – five members chosen by the LNC, five my the five largest states.
Platform – ten members chosen by the LNC, no more than five of which can be from the ten largest states (each of which appoints a single member).

Complaining does no good. If you know of a good candidate for a committee, tell them to get their info to their regional rep for nomination. When the list of nominees is available, talk to your rep about who would be good/bad, they’ll have a full day to make their votes.
@16: Until such time as they do not appoint LNC members or cronies and such selections are handled at the convention by the delegates, yes.
What was Mr Houze’ position on the actions of the committee in 2012?
The most important CC meeting at the convention was certainly the first one. I can’t remember — did he attend?
New York State Committee voted without objection to re-appoint Michael Houze to Credentials Committee.
We will make our selection for Platform in February.
Here’s hoping the right people get selected
Hope in one hand…
@9 my pleasure
You don’t have much to lose – just whatever time and effort you put into applying.
I’m hoping we can do better than the last few LNCs, but we shall see. One thing for sure though, if we don’t get the applications, or if people put no effort into them, it could become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Just on the off chance that we may be not quite as bad as the last few LNCs I would encourage anyone who may be interested to submit their applications.
@14
So the new LNC couldn’t possibly do any better than the last several. And you are 100% absolutely certain. Gotcha.
” The LNC could do something good, but not because I tell them to.”
No, not because you tell them to.
I said ” help make sure that other people submit applications, demonstrate and point out their ability and suitability, answer questions and lobby to get appointed.”
That’s different from you lobbying for them, which may or many not help, but that’s a separate question.
@12: Nope. Those committees are the perfect example of cronyism, even the state appointments to Platform. It’s why the last six reports from each of them were giant jokes.
@12 I am inclined to suggest that they are equally likely to be effective, which is to say “not very”. The LNC could do something good, but not because I tell them to. And perhaps I have grown attached to casting pearls.
@10 You can suggest that, or you can help make sure that other people submit applications, demonstrate and point out their ability and suitability, answer questions and lobby to get appointed. Which do you think has a higher chance of success?
@11 Maybe you’re right. Maybe not. If you’re right, it’s obviously not going to do any good for anyone who is not a “clown” to apply. But what if you’re wrong?
Do you think there’s any chance at all that you might be wrong?
Send In The Clowns…
Another rigged rigamarole…
Let me suggest that recycling the last set of committees might not be a constructive path into the future.
Steve thanks for the sarcasm we both know what I meant
I think (always dangerous) that some of the left people should also be selected.
Here’s hoping the right people get selected
Yes, but it would be nice to have it out in the open even more.
G@4
I think we are past the point where we don’t know who would react how and where their irrational alliances lay.
I wasn’t trying to be funny.
I think you should apply.
I would like to see the reactions.
G @2
You are a real killjoy … can’t just let something be funny 😉
You could apply. Whether you would be selected, I don’t know.
Oooh Oooh!
Can I be on the credentialing committee?
