Major Donation Received by Libertarian Party of Sacramento

Change ahead

Written by Janine Kloss, Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Sacramento County

For Immediate release

Sacramento, CA, July 2, 2013 — Much excitement has been brewing within the Libertarian Party of Sacramento County (LPS). Since taking office on April 19, 2013, the new officers have hosted three business meetings and two mixers with excellent attendance. In addition, the officers have been travelling around the greater Sacramento area to attend and support other LP events, Young Americans for Liberty events, and other liberty focused events.

In addition to this increased activity, the officers have been working with Libertarian Leadership Consulting, LLC (Owned by C. Michael Pickens) to attract donations to their growing operation. Yesterday, the LPS received their first large donation in the amount of $40,000, with a pledge for additional donations in the coming months. These funds are dedicated to a comprehensive plan developed and agreed upon by LLC, the donor, and the LPS. This plan includes dedicated employees, marketing and branding development, candidate support programs, grant programs, etc.

At the June 12, 2013 LPS business meeting, the plan for the additional funding was shared with the attendees and the committee voted to accept the funding along with the donor stipulations. The next business meeting for the LPS is scheduled for July 10, 2013.

This news comes at a time when the Libertarian Party has received much attention and praise. The outlook for the growth of the LP is highly favorable and additional large donations will continue to empower the party and propel its direction.

The Sacramento team is awesome. I haven’t had the opportunity to join one of their meetings or mixers, but many, including janine Kloss and Michael Pickens have come to several of the unofficial meetings we had with the newly formed El Dorado County LP. This is great news. It is a perfect example how we all need to become more active in our local parties before we worry about the large national party.

“Nice! That’s likely more than the budget of the entire Constitution Party.”

It’s like half the budget of the national party right now, no kidding.

    Awesome. Good work, I think…

But this phrase gives me pause…

“…the committee voted to accept the funding along with the donor stipulations”.

Is there any reason to be concerned over “donor stipulations”?

Realizing of course that most contributions come with stipulations (ballot access, building fund, etc).

Thank you everyone for the wonderful support! We are very excited 🙂

Steven, great question! We’ve been working for two months to hammer out all the details and we have an amazing plan, basically a start-up wish list! The stipulations are in place in order to avoid random people joining our county just to get their hands on money and also to ensure that we work towards the agreed upon goals.

I know it’s not necessarily casual “libertarian” style to have strict guidelines, however, it’s prudent business practice. That said, we are working closely with all interested parties and as things develop, we will make minor adjustments as necessary.

The total pledged is the largest amount pledged to the LPS for sure, and perhaps the largest to any single LP state or county organization. We have a big job in front of us and will be rallying additional members, volunteers, donations, etc. to propel the party forward. Money is a tool, but it’s really about the people that come together to make the most of this opportunity.

Feel free to contact me if you’d like to participate!! (my email can be found above)

Thanks again everyone and kudos to Jill and the whole team at Independent Political Report for giving us a third party news source!!

There was a delay in posting this comment because it was caught in the comments pending column, for some reason. Hopefully, it won’t happen again. If it does, though, Janine, send me quick msg on FB and I’ll clear it for you. You’ll know it’s happened if your comment doesn’t show up right away.

also to ensure that we work towards the agreed upon goals

Hi Janine, what is your plan?

perhaps the largest to any single LP state or county organization

Some state LPs have received larger donations, but I don’t know about counties.

  7. Janine Kloss

Really?? Well that’s fantastic! If LP groups are receiving personal donations of upwards of a quarter million dollars, I can’t wait to see the results of the efforts, projects, and programs that arise from that generosity… Or perhaps that has been in the past!?! I’d like to see our State party budgets exceed those of our “major party” counterparts!

As you can imagine, the plan is rather large and multifaceted… Perhaps I can write up an article describing our initial startup plans and then provide frequent updates? If that is desired by IPR, I’m happy to provide the articles!

Wait, quarter million? I thought 40k. I’m not sure if any states ever got a quarter million….maybe back when the Kochs were funding the LP?

Articles will be great, send anything you got. A very basic outline to start would be great too 🙂

  9. Janine Kloss

Yes, 40k is to get started in the first couple months. We also have a monthly pledge. We will be working with major donors all over CA to help increase the LP’s resources to a level where we can begin to compete! I’ll work on an article soon!! A major function of the plan is to get counties all over CA funded and active. A letter has gone out to the existing County chairs asking for their county plans and any needs for funding. No responses that I know of so far… Let’s get CA going!!

    Hi Rich,

Sorry for the delay in answering… I believe they have a waiting list. We have a lot of progress to make in the LP and many states are interested in contracting with LLC! You are welcome to contact Michael to begin the discussion 🙂
