Dear Supporter,
Only 8% of Americans actually achieve their New Year’s resolutions. And those who are successful accomplish only the simplest of their goals.
By contrast, the Green Party is working towards an economy supported by a clean and sustainable environment, non-violence and peace, and justice and democracy for all. This year, the Green Party won 35% of the elections it participated in, achieved ballot access in Arkansas, and saw the formation of the Green Shadow Cabinet. Revolution is not a simple resolution, and it takes time and commitment.
The Green Party also continues to support Jill Stein and Cheri Honkala as they travel the country, organizing for the Green Party long after their 2012 campaign ended. Jill and Cheri never made a New Year’s resolution to keep helping make the world a better place. They, and thousands of other Greens, simply carry on the work they started.
I have been volunteering, organizing, and campaigning for the Green Party for over 10 years. Year after year, I have worked to build a political party that is genuinely interested in good public policy instead of greed. However, more than any political or policy victory, my year was defined by the birth of my first child. Needless to say, I have not made any resolutions for next year. Raising my son and building the Green Party are both long-term revolutions (in my life and the world, respectively), and both require the optimism that is central to our values and politics. We win elections and grow every year, but it is also the multi-generational transformation of our society that keeps us driven and focused.
The Green Party of the United States needs your commitment. California already has its 2014 statewide slate of candidates selected, and Texas has lined up over 50 candidates to run for every level of office. Dozens of Green Congressional candidates are coming forward from around the country for the mid-term elections. So don’t just make a New Year’s resolution to help the Green Party – take action, donate today, and keep fighting for this generation and the next.
