Last week Senators Max Baucus, Orrin Hatch, and Dave Camp introduced the “Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities Act of 2014″ into the Senate. This is legislation which would fast track secretive trade agreements such as the Trans Pacific Partnership (TTP) and Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), both of which are being written behind closed doors by bureaucrats and corporate lobbyists. Leaks have shown that these agreements do more than just open up free trade, they modify intellectual property laws in ways that will undo the hard work of activists around the world trying to reform these laws.
We need to defeat this bill before it hits the floor. Call your senators NOW! Follow the guide below to call them and remind them that not even they know whats in the agreements. Ask them to stand against any attempts to move forward secretive agreements such as the TPP. With your help, we can stop Congress from fast tracking bad agreements and tell our government that we demand transparency.
How to contact your Senators
Look up your senator’s office number on the side of this page OR here. When you call, you will most likely not speak to the senator directly. They should get your message anyways.
EDITOR’S CORRECTION: This was originally posted as the opinion of the U.S. Pirate Party. This was in error. The post above was from Pirate Action, not the U.S. Pirate Party, which I erroneously assumed were connected. The U.S. Pirate Party did tweet this link on their Twitter Page, but are not directly involved. They contacted me to say the following: “While we appreciate the repost from pirateaction.com, your title misattributes it to our organization. Despite this, we maintain the same opposition to TPP as the author of the post you shared. Feel free to contact us.”
My apologies for this mistake.
