[Burke’s] only regret, as she bemoaned the slow pace, was that Libertarian did not win.
‘It’s a shame it didn’t go more of a gallop for us,’ she said. ‘He’s always off the bridle, whether they go a good gallop or not, but if the others had slowed up a bit, another furlong and he would have been in front.’
Libertarian, ridden by William Buick in pink-and-orange silks, was only the seventh horse trained by a woman to run in Britain’s richest race.
If Libertarian hadn’t been in the race, Republican would have won.
