On November 4, Libertarian nominees for statewide partisan office carried counties in three states. In all cases, there was no Democrat in the race.
In South Dakota, the Libertarian nominee for School Commissioner, John English, carried Buffalo, Shannon, and Todd Counties. Also in South Dakota, Chad Haber, the Libertarian for Attorney General, carried Shannon and Todd Counties. Also, Kurt Evans, Libertarian nominee for Auditor, carried Shannon and Todd Counties.
In Missouri, Sean O’Toole, Libertarian nominee for Auditor, carried Kansas City. There were three candidates in the race, a Republican, a Constitution Party nominee, and O’Toole. Technically Kansas City isn’t a separate county, but for over a century Missouri election officials have treated it as a separate county when they prepare official election returns.
In Georgia, John Monds, Libertarian nominee for Public Service Commissioner, carried DeKalb, Hancock, and Fayette Counties. DeKalb is the third most populous county in the state. Thanks to Michael for this news.

I’ve moved there before, just like I move everywhere else – many times each year. I live a nomadic lifestyle, like all my ancestors before me.
My nomadic lifestyle is one of many reasons why I should never be the candidate. My work on campaigns is in other capacities; others are better suited for the front man role. I’m more of a behind the scenes guy, with decades of experience on campaigns all over the country. But, hey, please ignore my advice and reinvent the flat tire instead.

Gotta agree with Paul on this one. It’s shameful when the LP doesn’t even attempt to field candidates, or put a good effort toward getting candidates qualified as was the case here in PA. The Constitutionists at least tried to qualify a gubernatorial candidate in South Dakota, and should be commended for that.

A Libertarian candidate for governor would have needed 2.5 percent. That might have happened, but it wouldn’t have been a slam dunk in a four-way race with a publicity-generating independent and an extremely popular incumbent governor. Things happen the way they’re meant to happen. We’re looking forward. 🙂
With those good results in the other races and the historic ballot retention next door in North Dakota, it’s a real shame SD had no one in the ballot retention race(s) (assuming my information on this is correct) because it seems like a slam dunk you could have got it and not have to petition to get back on the ballot yet again.

The South Dakota Libertarian Party is celebrating a historic showing at the ballot box in 2014. Capitalizing on several two-way races, Libertarian candidates earned an unofficial total of approximately 170,000 votes on Tuesday, shattering the party’s previous record of 38,998 votes received in 1994.
State treasurer candidate Ken Santema of Aberdeen had impressive individual numbers, becoming only the third South Dakota Libertarian to earn more than 13,000 votes in a three-way race contested by both major parties.
As expected, candidates in the party’s first-ever statewide two-way races had even greater totals, highlighted by John English of Sioux Falls. Running for commissioner of school and public lands, English won three counties and became the first South Dakota Libertarian to receive more than 50,000 votes.
The 23.5 percent earned by English is just shy of the 25.4 percent received by the Democrat in the South Dakota governor’s race.
Makes sense; all those counties are entirely or partly Indian reservations. They know all too well the destructive power of the federal government. And it was a nice tribute to Russel Means.
