Libertarian Martin Sullivan running for Frostproof, FL city council

By John Ceballos at theledger.com:

FROSTPROOF | For someone who is running for a seat on Frostproof’s City Council, Martin Sullivan has a somewhat surprising answer when asked what he thinks its role should be.

“When people ask me, ‘What should the city of Frostproof government do?’ my automatic response is, “As little as possible,” said Sullivan, who volunteers some of his time with the Libertarian Party of Polk. “I want to encourage volunteerism and community efforts that are more driven by groups like the chamber and Rotary Club, and just have the city facilitate and not hinder any processes that lead to economic growth.”

Sullivan, 44, is challenging incumbent Vice Mayor Diana Webster-Biehl for Seat 4 on the Frostproof City Council in the April 7 election.

The council is composed of five members elected at large, and they are paid $100 per month.

Sullivan, who has been married to wife Christine for two years and has two children, wouldn’t be the first person in his family to serve on the council. His father Larry is a former Frostproof mayor and city councilman. His mother owns Estelle Sullivan Realty. Sullivan himself owns the 10-acre Greener Horizons citrus grove north of Frostproof and works as caretaker for L&E Inc., a Frostproof-based citrus business.

Sorry. I totally agree! I guess I’m just too used to you having something negative to say whenever the LP of Florida is mentioned. I’m not complete versed on which Florida Libertarians are with the in crowd and which are not 🙂

But I apologize for bringing up the controversy when you hadn’t. Good luck to Martin Sullivan, he sounds like a solid candidate for the position with good community ties and pro-liberty views from what I read here.

Don’t be surprised, Paulie. Having candidates run for local office is great, it helps build the local affiliate. Polk County has a great affiliate, and I’m happy to see them take advantage of the local elections that are coming up in their area. This is great news.
