Columnist: Greens “after Sanders to run as their party’s nominee”

In his New York Daily News column, Denis Hamill recounts a conversation with his 16-year-old son about the 2016 presidential race.

When his son mentions that an 18-year-old friend, registered as a Green Party voter, is intrigued by the presidential candidacies of Sen. Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump, Hamill writes, “The Green Party has been after Sanders to run as their party’s nominee. If he does, Sam might be able to vote for him on the Green Party line.”

There has been little discussion of a Sanders candidacy among Greens on social media, where the independent, currently seeking the Democratic nomination, is often criticized for his positions on guns, foreign policy, and immigration. Sanders has ruled out a third-party run.

I may have my timeline off, but I think Sanders already ruled out running as anything except a Democrat at that point.

As a registered member of the Green Party in Massachusetts, I voted for Jill Stein and the Green Party last go-round. In spite of your assertion that Bernie has been criticized for his position on firearms, his sane approach actually makes me even more likely to vote for him than Stein.

This is great that there was corporate mainstream press that mentioned the Green Party. Usually the black out the Green Party. That is even though the Green Party, as the CIA World Fact book notes, the Green Party is one of only four truly national political parties in the U.S.
It is true that many Greens urged the U.S. Senator from Vermont to run for the Green Party nomination for President. That was in 2013, and 2014 in particular.

I was one Green Party voter, with other Greens that visited U.S.Senator Sanders office urging him to seek the Green Party nomination. His brother was elected as a Green Party candidate ot local office in the U.K. Earlier in 2015 that same Sanders brother ran as a Green Party candidate in the UK for parliament.

This facebook page was founded to urge Sanders to run as a Green Party candidate.

Dr. Jill Stein is now the primary focus of that same facebook page.

    Not a bad idea.

    “… journalistic integrity…”

Now there is a term that is increasingly becoming an oxymoron within the mainstream media. We are all the poorer for it regardless of our political philosophy.

Dennis Hamill is ill informed which speaks poorly of his journalistic integrity. It shows a reckless disregard for fact checking.
