Actor/director Mark Webber, who played Stephen Stills in “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” among other roles, has launched a Kickstarter to raise funds to make a “secret movie” drawing on his experiences growing up in poverty with his mother Cheri Honkala, who later became the 2012 Green Party vice presidential nominee.
Webber told Indiewire, “I think I’m letting you know just enough by alluding that it’s about my mother. I like to work with non-actors and draw from real-life situations. My mom is a very public figure for very specific reasons, and I think that’s throwing it out there to create enough trust and intrigue without me staying flat out what it is.”
Webber is seeking $50,000 for the project. As of Tuesday afternoon, he has raised more than $28,000 from 270 backers.
