Press release from the Alabama Constitution Party, as reposted to AL.com:
Stemming from our success in the 2014 state elections and by becoming the first minor party to maintain ballot access in Marshall County, the Alabama Constitution Party announces a new candidate search for the 2016 general election.
By maintaining our ballot line, the State of Alabama recognizes the Alabama Constitution Party as a legitimate political party in Marshall County. This recognition allows us to run candidates in Marshall County without having to circulate petitions for the 2016 and 2018 election cycles. The state also allows the party the option of joining the primary process or continue to nominate by convention.
With the Alabama taxpayers footing the bill for the primaries, the Alabama Constitution Party has chosen to opt out of the primary process and not contribute to the financial burden on Marshall County tax payers. If the Democrat and Republican parties would follow the lead of the Alabama Constitution Party, more than $1.5 million tax payer dollars could be saved statewide every election cycle.
The two major parties collect enough money from filing fees alone to offset the cost of their primaries. This financial burden should not be placed on the Alabama tax payers, when over 78 percent of Alabamians did not vote in the primaries this past year. The Alabama Constitution Party believes that opting out of the primary process is the right thing to do and the right step toward fiscal responsibility that is so greatly needed across our state.
The races we are seeking candidates for are: County Commission 2 (incumbent Martin), County Commission 3 (incumbent Buddy Allen), Board of Education 1 (incumbent Simmons) and Board of Education 2 (incumbent Edmonds).
