Dennis Hof on why he’s running for state Senate, after initially exploring U.S. Senate bid

Brothel owner Dennis Hof announced Friday he would be running as a Libertarian for the Nevada Senate seat currently occupied by outgoing Sen. Greg Brower, R-Reno.

Hof was originally considering running for U.S. Senate, but said he did not want to kowtow to special interests for money.

“You just can’t get the $5 million to 10 million without whoring yourself out and I’m not going to do that,” he said. “There’s a lot of people willing to give me money, but there’s a payback. I’m not going to compromise my principles.”

The incumbent in the U.S. Senate race, Minority Leader Harry Reid, made news recently when he urged the Nevada State Legislature to outlaw the state’s legal prostitution industry. Reid has announced he will retire at the end of this term and not seek re-election.

The state Senate seat Hof will be running for instead, is currently being contested by a Republican state Assemblywoman, with no Democratic candidates announced.

    Quote from the article.

“It’s kind of neat,” he said. “I call myself a conservatarian. I feel like I’m a conservative guy even though I’m in a crazy business, but I like the libertarian values and what they stand for.”

    I am not impressed.

Well he did manage a “whoring” soundbite in the interview. Expect a ton of those this year.

From what I know so far I can’t say I’m very impressed either. Despite (or perhaps because of) being an owner of legal brothels, Dennis Hof has not been very supportive of decriminalized prostitution.

I also noticed that some of the prostitutes who work at his brothels have come out in support of Hillary Clinton ( The site lists Dennis as a press contact, and I recently wrote to him to ask about this. He claims that “my girls” support Hillary because they want to keep their health insurance, which he says they could not get before Obamacare even when they were earning lots of money.

I said that didn’t seem like a good enough reason to support (along with the rest of Hillary’s statist agenda) imposing a program on millions of people who are forced to buy overpriced insurance they don’t want, or risk being fined, and recommended the book by Peter Ferrara of the Heartland Institute (who’s also worked with the Cato Insistute), “The Obamacare Disaster”. It goes into very persuasive detail about how Obamacare hurts most people subject to its mandates, and I highly recommend it. You can check out the entire text online here —

Hof reiterated that the women want health insurance, and said nothing to indicate that he sees anything wrong with Obama’s health program.

A woman in a video posted on the site states that, “Dennis Hof and the ladies of the Bunny Ranch family have officially announced the endorsement of Hillary Clinton for president of the United States of America.” But when I asked him whether I was wrong in saying that he personally endorses Hillary, he responded, “I HAVE NOT SAID ANYTHING AND MIGHT NOT”. (Much of what he wrote to me was in ALL CAPS.) He refused to say who he does support for president.

I asked whether he has libertarian ideas or running as a Libertarian is more a matter of opportunity, and instead of replying to me, he asked the person I believe to be his PR assistant, who’d been copied on our email exchange, why he was having this “back and fourth” with me and whether I was a friend of the assistant’s.

It’s all a bit strange, and leads me to wonder how he is going to field any actual press inquiries he may receive.

Again, this run is all about publicity for his brothels. That’s what he does. He is a master of getting on the local news. Why? Sex always sells. Except for votes, I’m pretty sure.
