    The stated purpose is one thing but the constitution came out of a convention which was supposed to amend the articles of confederation, not scrap them. That could easily happen again. Even if the constitution is not scrapped completely there’s no telling what amendments get added in a convention. It’s not likely to stay limited by what gets discussed before it starts and can go way off the rails easily.

    I’m Not surprised by their position, btw.

    This is likely true.

    The purpose of a such a convention is for the States to propose new amendments, not to scrap the U.S. Constitution and go back to the drawing board. It’s called an “Article V” convention for a reason. The Constitution expressly authorizes it.

    We do not believe that such a convention could be limited in scope or purpose. The Constitution already allows amendments, why trash the whole thing? It would be an unwise, irrevocable and misguided venture. Let’s work with what was given to us through much sacrifice.

    There are a lot of majority black drawn districts around the country where the Republicans are not competitive. Johnson’s comment is pretty much the Congressional Black Caucus should become its own political party.

    They could start in Memphis where it rankles some locals their elected representative to Congress is Steven Cohen. Although to be realistic for a minute, blacks are only going to leave the Democrats if the Democrats give them a reason. A Buttigieg or Sanders nomination it’d be more likely than Obama’s Vice President.

    I disagree. There are black majority districts: Congressional, Assembly, State Senate, City Council. A BLM Party could motivate blacks to come out in large numbers, as they did for Obama, and win in such districts.

    Moreover, any party established to promote the collective interests of a particular race is just asking to be overtaken by militant racists and ethnic nationalists.

    Why? Another Working Families Party? Would this party be willing to erode Democratic votes and actually elect Republicans? Tricky business especially with a voting bloc that breaks 90% Democratic.

    Seems to me to be more anti-Democrat than pro-Trump. The left is turning more and more people off. I know a lot of Trump voters. Many of whom were in battleground states and likely Hillary voters until gun owners were called “basket of deplorables”.

    The current lefty mantra is “if you disagree with us about literally anything…you are a racist”. This is going to sink them in November.

    I hope there’s a silver lining for the LP in this. Back-to-back elections with the two most undesirable candidates surely will see people tuning out. Hopefully these folks opt for LP protest votes.

    Man, when did krist novoselic turn fascist? Last time I checked, he was interviewed at Reason about leaning libertarian after essentially being a life long democrat. Now he is spitting fire about “leftists” and praising Trump’s Benito act. Btw, Kennedy’s gone Benito, too.

    And Hitler did in fact use religion to bamboozle people much as Trump has. I don’t think either one was or is a genuine believer though.

    Of course. Germany is the birthplace of protestant Christianity, after all.

    The Hitler photo is photoshopped. It also bears pointing out the Sinclair Lewis quote is spurious, too. But, you know, that Trump photo is definitely authentic.

    The Insurrection Act of 1807 states that it can only be enacted when states have exhausted their own resources. President Trump has threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act nationwide, even without the express consent of state governors. This is unconstitutional.

    As President, I would never deploy American troops on our own soil. States and localities can, and should, engage in deescalation tactics to calm the situation and come to a solution within their own communities.

    Property destruction and violence against innocent people is wrong. I fully support the right of individuals to protect themselves, and their property with our second amendment right to bear arms.

    It is important to understand how we came to this point; The militarized police response to what were initially peaceful, first amendment protected protests. Well documented excessive force was shown to non-violent protesters all across the country. In some cities, deescalation tactics were used in place of riot gear, chemical weapons, and use of force. In those cities, violence and looting is practically nonexistent.

    We all want quick and peaceful solutions to the current crisis. End qualified immunity, require law enforcement to carry liability insurance to price bad officers out of a job, end victimless crime laws, reduce negative police interactions with communities. All of these are practical, yet highly effective ways to start real change.

    You don’t end riots that were caused by excessive force with even more force.

    Here in DC just prior to tonight’s 7pm curfew taking effect, they used
    mounted police, tear gas, and flashbangs to clear peaceful demonstrators
    out of Lafayette Park, pushing the crowd back a block. The President
    then walked through the park to have a photo op moment in front of St.
    John’s Church, then returned to the White House.

They attacked PEACEFUL PROTESTERS who are always in Lafayette Park 365/24/7 with rubber bullets, tear gas & mace grenades so King Orange the Idiot could march with a bunch of WHITE MEN and give an asinine speech!?! This was before the curfew BTW when they were allowed to be there. BULLY! And surrounded by military vehicles like some little general! OUTRAGEOUS! He’s just asking for a riot!
