Anti-war proponents will coalesce in New York City early next month in protest to call for an end to all wars. Referred to as “Humanity for Peace,” the gathering will convene outside the United Nations Building located in Midtown Manhattan.
“The danger of nuclear war has escalated to a point that no thoughtful person on the planet can ignore it any longer. Yet, in this atmosphere, there are still some who think there should be more weapons, more sanctions and who think that a nuclear war can be won against Russia,” the event states in its formal mission statement. “It is very clear that those who have provoked the war, and continue to escalate it, do not care about the lives of the people of Ukraine or any other nation on the planet for that matter.”
“We, the citizens of the world, therefore bring together all of our forces for peace, as a unified coalition above ideologies, to stop the unfolding escalation towards nuclear war. We refuse to let humanity perish at the hands of insanity,” it continues.
To that end, event organizers have begun collecting supporters’ contact information for the upcoming rally outside the United Nations Building and extending an invitation to any potentially interested speakers. They additionally direct supporters to purchase event merchandise from an independent merchant that claims a portion of all sales made will benefit the Libertarian Party National Candidate Support Committee. However, the merchant also states they have no formal affiliation with the Libertarian National Committee and simply support the promotion of libertarian values and the election of Libertarian candidates to office.
While not associated with the Rage Against the War Machine rally and coalition jointly organized by the Libertarian Party and People’s Party in Washington, D.C. earlier this year, the Humanity for Peace event has its formal endorsement. Additionally, several familiar sponsors have thrown their support behind the upcoming gathering.
As of this article, the event only lists several confirmed speakers. However, the fledgling line-up includes Nick Brana, National Chair of the People’s Party and former campaign manager to Green Party hopeful Dr. Cornel West, and Libertarian Party presidential aspirant Mike ter Maat. The other listed speakers are Scott Ritter, a former United Nations Special Commission weapons inspector who spoke at the similar Rage Against War rally earlier this year, and futurologist Gerald Celente, known for his predictions on terrorism, war, and the financial market. Brana, Celente, and Ritter were also all formally involved with Rage Against the War Machine Rally in some capacity at one point.
The event has so far garnered formal sponsorship from two emerging political parties. These include the People’s Party and the Party of Communists USA (PCUSA). It’s important to note that the Party of Communists USA should not be confused with the Communist Party USA (CPUSA), as they are separate organizations. Despite their shared historical origins, each entity has its own internal structure and runs local, state, and federal candidates.
Alongside the aforementioned political parties, the event has received endorsement from various non-electoral parties and private groups spanning a wide spectrum of ideologies. Notable among them is the Black Hammer Party, an organization rooted in anti-capitalism and Black liberation, formed by former members of the African People’s Socialist Party. Additionally, the LaRouche Organization, which disassociated from LaRouchePAC in 2021 due to leadership disagreements, also lends its support. Furthermore, the event benefits from the backing of Free & Equal, a nonprofit organization recognized for amplifying emerging party voices during presidential election cycles. Other participating groups include Liberty Speaks, the American Student Union, and numerous others.
Humanity for Peace is scheduled to take place outside the United Nations Building in Midtown Manhattan on August 6, 2023.
