Green National Committee Begins Review of Proposed Operating Budget for 2025

The Green National Committee is currently discussing a proposed 2025 annual operating budget, totaling just over $203,000. The Committee will deliberate on the proposal for the next three weeks before a final vote later this month.

A proposal submitted by the Green Party’s Steering Committee on Tuesday puts fourth an annual budget of $203,669, with the bulk of that revenue coming from sustaining members. This budget is more than $40,000 smaller than last year’s presidential-cycle budget, with the Committee attributing that reduction to an expected drop in total donations. However, the Committee is expecting an increase in new small-dollar donors and revenue from the Annual National Meeting—which it notes is designed to be budget-neutral but has historically generated surplus funds—to help offset some of the decline.

On the expense side, the Steering Committee anticipates spending $203,437 on key party operations, including committee activities, media, and personnel costs. Other allocations include essential infrastructure, including the party’s NationBuilder system, various software services, and media resources. The Committee further notes in the proposal that while some committees have been allocated less funding than requested, it expects to revisit some of those totals through budget amendments later in the year if fundraising efforts exceed expectations.

Notably, $40,200 of that amount is designated for expenses specifically aimed at generating the party additional revenue, such as merchandise and fundraising efforts. To that end, the Steering Committee has contracted a professional fundraiser to support the Fundraising Committee, assisting with direct mail, email solicitations, donor list improvements, and honorariums for fundraising event speakers.

Additionally, the budget proposal addresses the party’s Operating Reserve Fund, which experienced a modest drawdown during the 2024 election cycle. While spending was lower than initially projected, the Steering Committee states that it is developing a plan to replenish the reserve and update the recommended funding threshold, which was last calculated over several years ago.

According to the Green National Committee Vote Tracker, the National Committee will discuss the budget from April 1 to April 20, with voting scheduled from April 21 to April 27. The proposal is being managed on the floor by Charles Ostdiek, requires two-thirds for quorum, and must receive a majority vote to pass.

“The Green National Committee is currently discussing a proposed 2025 annual operating budget, totaling just over $203,000.”

When it’s closer to $204k, I’m not sure “just over” does it justice 😛

“A proposal submitted by the Green Party’s Steering Committee on Tuesday puts fourth an annual budget of $203,669”

Sorry to be facetious, but it’s “forth” not “fourth”. I make plenty of typos myself, so I wouldn’t even mention it, if it hadn’t tripped me up and caused me to re-read that sentence several times to make sure I understood it correctly.

“This budget is more than $40,000 smaller than last year’s presidential-cycle budget”

One would certainly hope that the budget is smaller in an off-year than in an election year – especially a general (as opposed to a midterm) election year. The fact that it is only fractionally smaller, makes one wonder whether the Green Party is more interested in perpetuating its own existence than in achieving anything…

Jobs for the boys – or more likely, this being the Green Party after all, for the girls (including, perhaps especially, the ones with penises).
Nice work if you can get it! *cough* https://independentpoliticalreport.com/2025/02/green-party-considers-special-fund-to-identify-nonpartisan-local-candidates/
