Elon Musk has announced he is launching a new political party, the America Party. Their objective, he says is to win a modest number of Congressional and Senate seats, enough to be the balance of power.
[Edit: The Party has warned that the party does not have novel blockchain coins; blockchain coins similar to bitcoin but using the America Party’s name have no connection with the America Party.]
“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” Musk posted on X on Saturday. “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
Musk’s announcement followed a poll he conducted on July 4, asking X users whether they would support the creation of a new party. Of the more than 1.2 million respondents as of this article, 65.4% voted in favor. The poll appeared to serve as a final confirmation of his plans, which he had hinted at since early June amid growing criticism of President Donald Trump and Republican support for the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
Musk has been publicly critical of Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” signed into law on Friday, and has suggested that neither major party is committed to fiscal restraint or meaningful government reform. In recent weeks, he has reportedly been approached by several notable figures in third party and independent circles about his plans to establish a new organization, including Libertarian National Committee Chair Steven Nekhaila, Forward Party co-founder Andrew Yang, and representatives of the No Labels organization.
A website potentially linked to the America Party was registered on June 6, shortly after Musk’s initial public feud with Trump. While the site has not been officially confirmed as affiliated with the party, recent updates include a link to the America PAC, a Musk-backed political action committee he used to support Trump’s 2024 campaign.
Further details about the party’s structure and ballot access plans have not yet been announced, and the party has not yet been registered with the Federal Election Commission.

It has occurred to me that Musk may be anticipating the possibility that the Supreme Court may soon throw out all contribution limits for political parties. If so, he may want to fund this new party entirely by himself.
“IMO, a better method for pursuing the kind of strategy that Musk is talking about would be to set up a super-pac to recruit and support independent candidates in selective competitive districts.” – Walter Ziobro
I would totally agree!
IMO, a better method for pursuing the kind of strategy that Musk is talking about would be to set up a super-pac to recruit and support independent candidates in selective competitive districts.
For his strategy to work, he will have to target competitive districts in swing states. He doesn’t need a lot of candidates to do this. What he will need to do is control his supporters from wasting time and resources running in non-competitive districts This seems to be a problem that Ross Perot had; he kept trying to damp down supporters running “unauthorized” (by him) campaigns in places he didn’t want them to run.
On a scale of 0 to 10 with zero being Chase Oliver and ten being Kanye West, I wonder how much money consultants are going to make off of Elon in this deal.
This looks real enough, but who knows….

A web search on “America Party” finds much material on them, but not yet a web site, which is presumably still propagating.
The alleged strategy has several large holes. Having eight Congressmen only works if neither party has a significant majority in the House. Guessing which Congressional seats are vulnerable to an America Party race is a fool’s game. A serious third party will attempt to have at least edcent candidates for everything. It also has to get off the ground very quickly. Ballot access filing dates for the 2026 election start to close, if I recall correctly, this December.

Good. Let the Mises Cult leave the LP. Perhaps then I’ll rejoin.
Hey Gadfly,
RE: What are the going odds of Musk abandoning this project the second he realizes how much work it will take? Honestly will be shocked if this gets to the midterms.
Time to start a betting pool.
My sense, at least, is while the positions the “America Party” is taking on its website are mixed but generally preferable to the Rs and Ds, I doubt it will work if it’s just an “Elon Musk” project. It would need to peel off significant players like, say, Massie, Paul, Amash, Cuban, and Phillips; otherwise, this is a vanity project. It’s especially so since Musk comes across as erratic in behavior. For example, his first foray into politics was DOGE, which sounded great to me but the execution seemed generally poor. Apparently, Musk didn’t even know about “rescission” legislation. (Vivek had the better approach, near as I can tell.)
Targeting a few House and Senate races strikes me as solid and reasonably practical strategic thinking. Create a wedge that appeals to the 80% that starts modestly, but with room to grow.
I have invited Mr. Musk to the Unity Party we surely have our problems with him but if he genuinely wants to help America I hope he comes aboard.
I guess egos as large as his just HAVE to do this even if it is pointless. As I have said before if Ross Perot couldn’t make it happen I don’t see Elon Musk having any more success.
To add on, part of me thinks we get 2 months down the road and Elon completely forgets about this.
The name is smart in the sense of no one in politics is going to disparage “America” like you can a Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, etc.
Wouldn’t surprise me you see some Mises Caucus types throw their lot in with this. But teally the problems same as always are – money spend, lawyers on ballot access, and candidates and where are you focusing?
The America Party has a website. theamericaparty.org
What are the going odds of Musk abandoning this project the second he realizes how much work it will take? Honestly will be shocked if this gets to the midterms.
