The Forward Party has announced the winners of its “Changemaker AI Contest,” awarding paid internships to younger members who submitted AI-generated meme images earlier this year. The contest was organized by the Young Forwardists in collaboration with entrepreneur Mark Cuban.
The contest was first announced in April, inviting participants to share AI-generated images related to political humor and “election season antics.” According to the original announcement, the party would award paid internships to three members, with the top submission receiving a congratulatory email from Mark Cuban. In addition to Cuban, Young Forwardists President Gabe McQuire and North Carolina Forward Party Vice Chair MJ Hall also participated as judges. Submissions were due by April 21 and were expected to help “drive engagement, challenge assumptions, and inspire action.”
In a statement last Friday, the Forward Party announced Michael Leach and Joseph Lieu as contest winners. Their submissions are available here and here, respectively. A third winner was not named in the statement, though an accompanying video released alongside it features Cuban congratulating three winning participants. The winners will receive a remote, ten-week paid internship with the party later this season.
“This wasn’t just about memes; it was about using your voice to challenge the status quo and drive real change,” Cuban said. “That’s how a democracy should work and look.”
According to prior details shared by the Forward Party, the internships will pay $30 per hour for 15 hours per week throughout the ten-week period. Intern responsibilities include developing creative strategies to engage young voters, supporting coalition-building efforts, and conducting research on electoral reform, public policy, and political trends to inform party strategy.
