Libertarian Party of Michigan Names James Harris to District 12 Executive Committee Seat

The Libertarian Party of Michigan has appointed James Harris to its state Executive Committee. Harris will serve a two-year term representing Libertarian members residing in Michigan’s 12th Congressional District.

In a September 18 statement, the party announced Harris was appointed by the Executive Board to its District 12 seat during its September 14 meeting. A recording of the meeting shows Harris was elected with unanimous support among those members present.

As a district representative, Harris will attend meetings of the Libertarian Executive Committee and vote on behalf of Libertarians in District 12. District representatives also serve as liaisons between local members and the state party, helping coordinate outreach, and support party activities within their regions.

The district includes parts of Oakland and Wayne counties. In Oakland, it covers Beverly Hills, Bingham Farms, Franklin, Lathrup Village, Southfield, and Southfield Township. In Wayne, it includes Dearborn, portions of Dearborn Heights and Detroit, as well as Garden City, Inkster, Livonia, Redford Township, and Westland.

District 12 was the only district that did not elect a representative at the party’s July state convention in Port Huron. During that meeting, delegates originally selected Trevor Step to represent District 12; however, Step was later deemed ineligible for failing to meet residency requirements. Members otherwise elected a nearly complete slate of new officers to the Executive Committee, replacing most of the previous leadership.
