Gregory: Bob Barr campaign digs deeper hole; Woods: Verney’s statement ‘sheer stupidity’

“This is really amazing,” says LRC columnist and blogger Anthony Gregory, in reference to the Barr campaign’s recent pro-Bush/anti-Paul statement. “The same campaign that was willing to praise Jesse Helms, Al Gore and now George Bush, a campaign that has flip-flopped on global warming, gay marriage, the drug war and other issues, is now attacking the most popular libertarian activist movement in modern history, and attacking Ron Paul the person for caring more about himself than spreading the message of freedom – perhaps the most bizarre accusation one could make.”

Thomas Woods, author of The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History and Who Killed the Constitution, characterizes Verney’s statement as “sheer stupidity.”

I’m starting to think that even Milnes would have been a better candidate than Barr.

“Does the LP even care it is being repeatedly killed on the most widely read libertarian blog in the world?”

Why would the Barr people care about libertarians? They’ve made it clear that their base is anti-McCain anti-Paul conservatives, a group which has not been proven to exist.

I am not going anywhere. The LP is still my home. I will support the efforts of the BTP and the CP in absence of better candidates however.

I’ve thought about leaving in the past.

I’ve decided to stay and fight.

No, the LP’s leadership (i.e., the Barr/Root faction) doesn’t care, because they believe that the future growth of the party will come from unhappy conservatives and Republicans defecting to the LP.

I’ve read Reform bloggers say that it matters not if radicals are upset, because for every radical who leaves the LP, 10 “conservative libertarians” will join.

Anthony Gregory and Walter Block were attendees at the 2008 convention. They were dissed by the Statoite leadership and probably would never come back again anyway. But now? No chance.

Down with Barr! Down with Root! Down with Redpath! Up with Liberty!
