The Fast Fix: Can a Third Party Take the Presidency

Chris Cillizza posted this blog yesterday asking if a third party can win the presidency in 2012.

Americans are getting fed up with Democrats and Republicans, but even so, would a third party stand a chance in the 2012 election?

People don’t like Republicans. Ditto Democrats.

With so much unrest in the electorate, the time appears ripe for a third party to emerge in the 2012 presidential race.

  1. MORE PROOF THAT BOTH DEMOCANS AND REPUBLICRATS STINK!

The sixties and the seventies, where we continued to run the nation in to the ground, via the simultaneous squanderings of the Great Society, the totally unnecessary Viet nam war, and the PR based NASA bull shit. * ?????????????

The American space program, where all three death incidents happened *politics, politics, politics* within weeks of either the Presidential Swearing In or State of the Union.

1966, a first year nursing student would know not to have 100% oxygen in an environment including flames or electrical equipment.

Both Space Shuttle ‘incidents’ [like the Apollo One debacle] were preceded by the whispers of dozens of frightened engineers, and the tiny, tiny chorus of brave employees.

Even the moon landing. Is there any one more agoraphobic than tight lipped, mousey Neil Armstrong ??????? And then there is Buzz Altran, whom never met a stranger. *major screw up*

NASA, a sorry, sorry piece of Americana! More proof that government can’t do much correctly!

I don’t know about that but I know that kid touchers can take a third party in California!!!!

I now think the only way a third party can win the presidency is for the field in the general election to include very strong left and right options and the major parties split the votes about equally.

NF @ 2 Your normal brilliants again friend !!! The media drives it all (money really, but the media generates the money) and who “drives” the media ? A very few people actually ! Those few people OPPOSE libertarian solutions to the world’s ills. Sadly a full 80% of U.S. citizens get almost all their news from the major media. A media of overpaid LACKEYS daily spewing the “company” line. An uphill battle for liberty lovers indeed !

“There is no such thing, at this date of the world’s history, in America, as an independent press. You know it and I know it. There is not one of you who dares to write your honest opinions, and if you did, you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid weekly for keeping my honest opinion out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar weekly salaries for similar things, and any of you who would be so foolish as to write honest opinions would be out on the streets looking for another job. If I allowed my honest opinions to appear in one issue of my paper, before twenty-four hours my occupation would be gone. The business of the journalists is to destroy the truth; to lie outright; to pervert; to vilify; to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread. You know it and I know it, and what folly is this toasting an independent press? We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities, and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes.” – John Swinton, former New York Times Chief of Staff

Every election cycle some pundit predicts an opening for independents/3rd parties. It never happens, though.

Perot was actually leading in the polls before dropping out and back in in 1992.

A “system change” will do little good if the media fails to tell the sheeple about it.

New day, same old polls and punditry. Every election cycle some pundit predicts an opening for independents/3rd parties. It never happens, though. We need a system change.
