Constitution Party opens national headquarters in Kent County
The national campaign headquarters for the Constitution Party officially opened Tuesday evening in a building that formerly housed a video store.
The Constitution Party supports a strict adherence to the U.S. Constitution. It also promotes states’ rights, individual rights and other issues.
Constitution Party presidential nominee Chuck Baldwin attended the grand opening of the headquarters at 5500 S. Division Avenue in Kentwood. The Party hosted several dozen people to mark the beginning of its run for the White House.
Baldwin talked to the crowd about his view of government that taxes and spends less doesn’t get involved in the business of other nations and one that would scrap free trade agreements including NAFTA.
The crowd was enthusiastic but many wondered the same thing – why did Baldwin and his Party choose to base the campaign in West Michigan?
“The jobs are gone, the plants are gone, and all of this has happened with both the Republicans and the Democrats in charge. We believe that we can get the message of economic prosperity and freedom back into America again. And Michigan is a great place to start,” Baldwin told 24 Hour News 8.
Deputy campaign director Meghann Walker said Michigan is an important state in the race for the White House.
Baldwin said he will be back in Michigan in hopes of winning the state’s 17 electoral votes.
He will be 24 Hour News 8 Political Reporter Rick Albin’s guest on To The Point, Sunday at 10 a.m. on WOOD TV8.

Did the Baldwin HQ already have AC?
Michigan is a pretty good choice for them, actually.
It will give them hope for capturing media attention in a key battleground state. Possibly swinging the balance there and making themselves thus more newsworthy.
As the PR notes they will use it to highlight their economic stances, such as protectionism and probably immigrant-bashing.
On a more positive note, Michigan has a large Arab/mideastern population, so maybe it will give them a reason to talk about peace issues.
Although in a different part of the state, Hillsdale is there, and may be a source of campaign interns and staff for them.
I suspect, though, that the donated office space was the real issue.
BTW: I will definitely be visiting the HQ when I go to see my friend. Looking forward to it.
Not to my knowledge. We’re mostly conservative since the segregation battle. Remember, this is a state thoroughly won by both Strom Thurmond and George Wallace.
But no–iv never even MET a communist here in LA, although I hear there are some in New Orleans.
Then again, at least Michigan isn’t the state that a man who thought FDR was too conservative controlled as a socialist empire for x years… A lot of those commies are still alive in kicking in LA, are they not, Trent?
Socialist Michigan?
Hey, we resemble that remark.
No way Baldwin will win socialist Michigan. Headquarters should’ve been placed in Montana, with additional (And smaller) offices in Nevada, Utah, Washington, North Dakota, and Alaska.
