The Reform Party of California announced its support of Alan Reynolds for Lt. Governor. This is the Reform Party of California’s first endorsement for the 2014 election, and the second announced candidate for the Reform Party in the nation.
Alan Reynolds grew up in California, and went to public school. Upon graduating, Alan enrolled in USC and majored in aerospace engineering. After college Alan worked as an engineering consultant and technical sales specialist before opening his own business. He currently serves as the vice-chairman of the South Pasadena Freeway and Transportation Commission.
Alan considers himself to be a centrist. According to a letter he published on his website, he believes “Centrists ought to stop defining themselves using a political spectrum that no longer has any meaning. Instead, the political middle ought to start from scratch, building a set of guiding principles that: 1. <ake sense; 2. appeal to the large and growing segment of Americans [and Californians] who are disaffected with the two-party system; and 3. embody the tools necessary to deal with (our) most serious policy challenges”.
The Reform Party of California chose to endorse Alan Reynolds due to his centrist beliefs and moderate platform. His belief in independent thinking fits well with the foundation that the Reform Party of California is trying to build for the party. Alan Reynolds and the Reform Party also share similar views on government reform and fiscal responsibility.

The Reform Party national office announced yesterday that its California affiliate has officially endorsed independent Alan Reynolds for Lieutenant Governor. And Reformers don’t hand out their endorsement lightly. This is the party’s first official endorsement of the 2014 election cycle.
Alan Reynolds is a loving husband and father of two and a lifelong resident of California. A small businessman with an engineering degree from USC, the independent candidate for Lt. Governor also has something many similar candidates wish they did – experience. Public service experience means a lot to voters and often differentiates between a protest candidate and a legitimate candidate. Reynolds currently serves as Vice Chair of the local Freeway and Transportation Commission.
The Reform Party was initially launched by former Presidential candidate Ross Perot and has seen its share of internal party struggles in recent years. While various state Reform Party chapters nominated an assortment of Presidential candidates in 2012, each state affiliate also nominates its own candidates for local and statewide races. Occasionally, as in this instance with Lt. Governor hopeful Alan Reynolds, the Reform Party gives its official endorsement to an ‘independent’ who represents many of the ‘reform’ positions the party strongly supports.
Unlike your party, they actually exist in some states other than California. Independent and write-in should be self explanatory to anyone who has spent as much time at IPR as you have.

Technically he is also the first candidate for state office that has both the Modern Whig and Reform Party endorsement. We cross nominated an independent write in for Charlotte City Council, but both parties have never teamed up to support a ballot qualifying candidate.
One of the most interesting things about Alan Reynolds is that he is on the June 2014 ballot as an American Elect Party member. It is odd that neither of the two articles above mentions that. He is the first candidate in California history to have that ballot label.
