States not holding conventions in 2015:
Louisiana holds conventions every four years (presidential years).
Idaho, Oklahoma and Texas hold conventions in even numbered years.
And via statechairs email list from Wes Benedict:
2[2] of 50 states are now accounted for on the new 2015 blog entry.
I’d be happy to speak at any state convention provided I’m available. Below is a video of my presentation to the LP Illinois where I gave away copies of my book at the end and helped raise funds for the LP Illinois.
The sound improves at the 2 minute mark:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eybCeZFiQ_A
It’s OK if you, or activists from your state, have insulted me in the past, or want to insult me in the future. I’ll still give a strong effort and help your state raise funds–ask Florida 🙂
For me to be a guest speaker, I request that the state affiliate or a volunteer from the state affiliate pay for my flight and waive any registration fees. The national Party will pick up my hotel and other travel expenses (but I prefer the state affiliate to also pick up the hotel expense if possible).
Carla Howell is also available for state conventions particularly to give her “Who’s Driving” training.
While I haven’t run this by our Vice Chair yet, I bet Arvin Vohra would also probably be willing to give the Who’s Driving training. I witnessed him giving the “Who’s Driving” training last month in Louisiana and he did a great job.
Chair Nick Sarwark gave a fantastic speak at the LPHQ grand opening last September. You can view the speech here:
Based on that, I’m guessing he’d make a great speaker at state conventions.
Evan McMahon of the LNCC gives an entertaining and interesting speech on candidate training. His LSLA video is posted here:
http://lsla.org/resources along with videos of some other speakers you could sample in advance that might be good choices.
I also hear Michael Pickens gives a great speech and I see him on the schedule for Ohio so he must be good:
https://www.lpo.org/take-action/2015-conference
I’m sure Dr. Lieberman will be happy that I’m also reminding you that we have a long list of elected Libertarians that might make good speakers at your state convention:

Thanks for helping us build a list of 2015 state conventions, and I wish you success with yours.

As noted in the article, Okies are among the states not having conventions this year 🙂
Among those I am still waiting to hear back from are Arkansas and my own state party here in Alabama.
Okie dokie.
We did put up a CA discussion. Actually at least two since I first posted this. The first one got kinda threadjacked. The second one is still there, but I haven’t been bumping the time stamp on that thread like I have on this one.
There may be some more CA threads coming up, hopefully soon, as candidates announce for their nomination.
It’s designed to be constantly update with new info, and is about a series of events that happen over time, so it wouldn’t do much good as an old thread.
However, the actual updates have become less frequent, and the conventions themselves are mostly still a ways off, so I can quit bumping it up when there is not a new update or a convention coming up that day/weekend. Any strong sentiments on that either way from anyone else?
Also, this thread should be named (listing in process) rather than (listing in progress).
Not sure why this thread keeps moving almost to head of the page, but in any event I think the discussion about LP of CA merts its own entry and not in the comments section of a piece that is supposed to be informational on when state conventions will be held.
That said, New York LP has firmed up its Convention for Saturday, April 25 from 9am to 6pm at the Rochester Airport Holiday Inn. We have never charged floor fees for business session only attendees, but I hope many will stay for luncheon, speakers and workshops (yes, on how to do real political things like raising money, running campaigns and other real stuff rather than in-fighting) at a total cost of only $75.00.
LP Vice Chair Arvin Vorha will be one of our esteemed speakers.
Discount rooms at the Holiday Inn will be available at $79 per night.
LP.org listing has been updated with the latest changes, I’ll try to do the same with ours tonight.
The 2015 LPTN Convention will be held on Saturday April 25, 2015 from 9 am until 5 pm at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Murfreesboro, TN. This is the same location as was used for the 2014 LPTN Convention.
We will be sending out an email with more details within the next few days.
Embassy Suites Nashville SE – Murfreesboro
1200 Conference Center Blvd,
Murfreesboro, TN,
37129, US
Thanks for the update. Did you send it to Wes Benedict as well?
The Eisenhower Hotel in Gettysburg decided to inform the LPPA that it could no longer handle our convention due to a large party that it had booked (before booking our event and accepting our deposit.) becoming 25% larger.
This prompted me to call an emergency board teleconference to consider alternate dates and venues. Currently, we are working with the last weekend in April and the first weekend in May, and we are considering Jim Thorpe, PA as a location as well as other towns close to 476, I80, and I78. We should have something firmed up by the end of the week, at which time I will formally RE-announce the event….
Sincerely,
Steve Scheetz
I’ve known Kevin a long time, and this just doesn’t sound like him — or at least what I know from working with him. Unfortunately, I haven’t had much interaction with him in the past few years since leaving the LNC, so it is certainly possible that there are changes that I am unaware of. If there are, that is certainly sad to hear.
Thanks for weighing in, Jose. I’ll have more on CA LP’s struggles later today, but I’ve written to Kevin Takenaga to see if he’d like to comment before my article goes up.
Thank you Jose. Hopefully better candidates for LPCA leadership will step forward and enough people will attend, despite the Vegas venue and the steep poll tax (“floor fee”) to elect them, and these types of things will be put in the past where they belong so the party can move on, recapture and surpass its peak.
I am the Chair of the Libertarian Party of Los Angeles County. Being Chair is hard work, not that I am complaining. It is hard work because ultimately the buck stops with me. I have realized that ultimately the membership looks to the person in charge for leadership. With out leadership the organization does not function effectively.
In 1957 President Eisenhower showed leadership during the crisis at Central High School in the city of Little Rock when he called out the 101st Airborne Division to restore order and integrate Central High School. President Eisenhower did not have to act. He did not have to integrate Central High School. And yet Eisenhower felt he had a legal (Constitutional) obligation to act by supporting the rulings of the federal courts that called for the integration of the public schools in the South. He felt the obstruction of the orders of the federal courts by Governor Orval Faubus and citizens of Arkansas had to be dealt with and thus President Eisenhower acted.
Currently in California the lack of leadership has been and is being shown by the Executive Committee in the way it was decided to have the Party convention in Las Vegas. Last year I spoke to a couple of members of the LPC convention committee. I was told the convention was going to be held in Los Angeles probably the Hollywood area of Los Angeles. A couple of months later I was told the convention was going to be in Ontario. I thought Hollywood or Ontario either city would be a good place to have the convention.
As I visited the regions in Los Angeles I mentioned to the members we were going to have the Party convention in Hollywood or Ontario. I received a positive response to my message. Plans were being made to attend the convention in Hollywood or Ontario.
One month ago the Southern Vice-Chair told me the convention was going to be held in Las Vegas. I asked, “What happened to Ontario?” I thought what happened to Hollywood? Sadly, and I mean no criticism toward the Vice-Chair, he had no answer. I heard the convention committee was abolished and the Party Chair decided the Party will have the convention in Las Vegas. The Executive Committee went along and approved the Chair’s actions.
Last year in 2014 I was an alternate member of the LPC Executive Committee. We (Executive Committee) held an Executive Committee meeting in Bakersfield at a hotel where we were going to have the convention. We were told the convention was going to be held in Bakersfield. I left Bakersfield with plans to attend the convention in Bakersfield. Soon after I received a message the convention was not going to be held in Bakersfield but was going to be held in northern California.
At the convention in northern California we had the lowest attendance to a convention since at least 1984 when I started attending Party conventions. Mark Hinkle during the questing period of officers asked the Chair, “Why is attendance so low?” The Chair said the question was out of order and he would not answer it.
And so it is 2015 and our Party convention is being held in Las Vegas. At the last Executive Committee meeting of the Libertarian Party of Los Angeles County a guest who was visiting to find out about our views, the Libertarian Party of Los Angeles County, and our meeting. During the meeting we talked about the convention in Las Vegas. After the meeting was adjourned our guest mentioned he liked what he had heard and was going to become a member. He also commented on the situation concerning the convention being held in Las Vegas.
What do I tell him? Do I say we are an organization that does not follow our own rules? That we make it a habit of having our conventions in another state? Do I tell him that we are an organization that requires a $130+ floor fee for members to attend the business sessions of the convention? Do I mention officers do not like answering questions given to them by the delegates?
In the beginning I talked about leadership and gave an example of leadership in action. It is 2015 and I ask, “Leadership, where is it?” Sadly it seams to me in the LPC leadership is lacking.
There’s other states with internal dissent, such as Texas and Florida, and I am sure others I don’t even know about.
Oregon is Oregon. That will probably never end. But the rumblings from California are disturbing — and of course sad to hear. I was not aware of issues in Louisiana.
Yes, there is frequently infighting. We had it here in SC a decade ago, but we kicked the con-artist out and have had a very cooperative group since. We have a few loons, but every state has them. None of our’s are in positions where they can hurt the cause.
Way more than that 🙂
infighting, whats that? and someone said there are two factions in the Lib Party , how can this be true….
There’s infighting in a few states. Like pretty much always…some states resolve their issues and others get worse in the meanwhile.
Stewart–CA is currently blowing apart at the seams. This might not be a bad thing, though, since we’re in pretty bad shape. I’ve asked permission to post something that might shed some light on what’s going on. If the writer says yes, hopefully we can start some dialog tomorrow.
Oregon again? Louisiana? California? What the [bleep] is going on???
I’m gonna leave it alone, too. Let them remain delusional.
The ongoing fighting in CA has sapped my energy. I can’t even begin to deal with Lousiana’s problems, either. Maybe someone else can cover it.
Also, I’m not going to do anything to stop Oergon debates in this thread if other people want to go in that direction. We’ve already opened the door with debates about CA, NV etc above. I just don’t feel like playing myself.
Thanks for the info though.
My listing is meant to mirror the listings at LP.org so if they list your convention and you don’t see it in the post here please let me know. I’m not interested in rehashing the Oregon issue in this thread; there are plenty of other threads for that purpose. Here I am just working with LPHQ and will follow their lead.
The Libertarian Party of Oregon, currently operating as PAC # 16869 recognized by Oregon’s Secretary of State, supported by six LNC votes and credentials processes of the two national conventions, and organized according to governing documents adopted by members in properly noticed conventions, will hold it’s annual business convention at 9:00AM on Saturday, March 21, at the Red Lion Inn located at 304 S.E. Nye Avenue in Pendleton, Oregon.
LPO leaders will be elected, possible amendments to the governing documents will be considered, and other business may be conducted. Notice has been provided via mail to LPO members as specified in the governing documents.
Please include this item with your other convention announcements.
Thank you.
Tim Reeves, Chair
Libertarian Party of Oregon
There is nothing wrong with anyone making money, but the problem arises when either, a) They made money dishonestly; or b) They did not provide a good or service that was worth the money that was paid to them, as in they did not give people a good value for their dollar.
I would not have a problem with a Libertarian getting paid $1 million per year (or more), provided that they made the money in an honest manner, and they provided goods or services for which it was worth it for them to make $1 million (or more) in a year, but of course for this kind of money, they damn well better provide some valuable goods or services.

“^^Hmmm, perhaps Michael Cloud would be an exception?”
I never said Pojunis is the only one doing this. He’s obviously been encouraged by Mr Cloud’s successful adventures with creative billing.
As far as making a little profit goes, yes I would agree that if someone is running a private business they should expect/hope to make a profit. What I object to is using elected positions of trust within the party to get organizations like the LSLA to give away events and profit opportunities to them. This is highly unethical. Misuse of power, abuse of trust of the members electing them to office, and on and on. Just what a republican or democrat would do — which we should expect since Pojunis’ statements indicate he’s probably faking a lot.
having said that I cannot afford the price, will be kicking t with my cheaper peeps , and completely understand the rage about the dbl convention…..
Paulie, Jonathan Jaech The CA LP’as Southern Vece-Chairman) told me late last week that he’d write up something about the convention for the LA County newsletter, and I’m expecting that soon. I’ll write an article about it then, unless someone has done so before me.
Since the announcement was made by the state Ex Com, however, I think it’s perfectly appropriate to start a new article about it. Actually, it would probably be better if someone else posted the article, since I’m so close to it.
Andy said: “Don’t know if Brett is pro-torture, but he obviously pro-CIA, and he also threatened to cut off LP members in Nevada from receiving communications with LP National for have the “audacity” of suggesting that the CIA be shut down, which is a perfectly Libertarian position, and is not even one that would be considered “radical” in libertarian circles.”
Also very well said.
Are we cleared to post a separate article about it yet? I was going to do it last week and then Brett asked me to hold off until he made an announcement Tuesday or Wednesday. Now it’s Sunday and I haven’t seen any new announcement anywhere.
>2011 There was one planned for Seattle but it fell apart when Rachel Hawkridge quit the LP. This is when Kevin, Sam et al put together one in Columbus OH not in conjunction with any other event as far as I know.
There was an LNC meeting there that weekend; LSLA was the day before. Same place where we just held the 2014 Convention. The big issue was whether the Hyatt would fix the elevators before 2014 (they did). Also, of equal importance, the Buffalo Bisons creamed the Columbus Clippers (a fact that I have not let Knedler live down to this day).
Paulie said: “There’s some people that SHOULD be scared away from the party. Starting with anyone who defends a government agency that tortures people.”
Well said.
Actually, I DO NOT have a problem with Brett making a little money on this. From what I’ve read, he put up a lot of the money to reserve the hotel. If he’s taking that risk, I have no problem with him making some money on that risk. However, I personally won’t be spending $220 for one day. That’s a decision based on my personal economics.
There’s some people that SHOULD be scared away from the party. Starting with anyone who defends a government agency that tortures people.
I also didn’t mean to say Brett was pro-torture. That was an error of wording on my part. My concern was that he reacted so strongly to the suggestion of closing the CIA. The reasons that he gave was that he didn’t want to scare people away from the party. I think Libertarians should be proud of wanting to close the CIA, although I recognize that not everyone in the party agrees with that.
Don’t know if Brett is pro-torture, but he obviously pro-CIA, and he also threatened to cut off LP members in Nevada from receiving communications with LP National for have the “audacity” of suggesting that the CIA be shut down, which is a perfectly Libertarian position, and is not even one that would be considered “radical” in libertarian circles.
for christs sake….Brett nor anyone else is pro torture. Has people tried tomake it rich or maybe tried to make a living where their passion is. If a Lib does well, sells some books , gets speaker fees or some other accomplishment, does it make themless Lib. Are we saying only starving activists are true…. I
“^^Hmmm, perhaps Michael Cloud would be an exception?”
There have been a few.
“Not torturing people is a core value to me, and one I cannot compromise on. (Likewise, police executing people and their pets). ”
Amen!
And so unbelievably sad that even has to be said at all in this country. 🙁
^^Hmmm, perhaps Michael Cloud would be an exception?
“and I absolutely positively think nobody except a dullard would ever try to make it rich off the LP people…”
Many have tried; most have failed.
It’s also very possible that the LP Ex Com will realize the $220 per day problem, and will plan alternate events for people who want to attend their convention. This is one reason I’m speaking out about it.
And thank for your offer to let people stay with you, LG. That’s very generous.
LG, my comment about not supporting Brett was personal. Not torturing people is a core value to me, and one I cannot compromise on. (Likewise, police executing people and their pets). Since I disagree with Brett on a core value, I don’t blieve I could support him if he ever runs for LP Chair, for example. However, as a state chair, I generally think Brett is doing a good job. From what I can see, he’s genuinely working to get the LP back on track in that state. I also recognize that he includes people that I know he doesn’t agree with. Since I consider my state party to be worse than stagnant, I admire state chairs like Brett, Michael Pickens and Wes Wagner who do seem to include all of their state members in their planning.
I don’t think anything I’ve said is a secret. I tend to call things as I see them.
Honestly I can’t think of anything that I can’t say right here. You are welcome to call me anytime though. I miss talking to you and it’s nice to see you here again.

Yes, it was!
Here’s the last few LSLA meetings for the record…
2007 Orlando, in conjunction with LNC meeting and Florida convention
2008 Vegas, I believe there was also an LNC meeting, and you guys had your NV convention there too?
2009 Charleston SC, there was also a LNC meeting
2010 Austin TX, there was a chair candidate debate, LNC, and Texas convention
2011 There was one planned for Seattle but it fell apart when Rachel Hawkridge quit the LP. This is when Kevin, Sam et al put together one in Columbus OH not in conjunction with any other event as far as I know.
2012 Vegas in conjunction with LP national convention.
2013 Colorado, near Denver…I believe in conjunction with CO convention?
2014 Columbus OH in conjunction with LP national convention.
I don’t remember before that.
Correcting my entry yesterday at 5:08pm:
The gentleman from Illinois who was instrumental in reviving LSLA and making sure the Columbus 2011 event was so successful was Lupe, not Luis. My apologies.
At least, I got Kevin’s, Sam’s and M’s names correct.
and lastly , I am so out of the play book, Jill , P , please private message me with anything you think I should know.
any cali members not able to afford a room can stay with me. I live near downtown and you can get there with one bus..Make no mistake , Id be pissed if my convention was held in another state, and having been on the wrong side of maneuvering before, I know the people who are pissed hve valid feelings. I jst want to reiterate this is not the Brett Pojunis choir over here, and Im gonna ask you all , based on you knowing me . to please come out.
and I absolutely positively think nobody except a dullard would ever try to make it rich off the LP people…
where did Brett say that CIA thing, Id like to read it….and Ill say that, everyone please dont confuse supporting Brett with supporting us…..he is our elected leader but he doesnt represent us , and more importantly , he doesnt try to. I wasnt ever attracted to him for his philosophy or issue stances , but he is an inclusive leader, he listens, hes never rude to activists , even our more colorful ones , he lets others ideas flourish ,doesnt micromanage and thats good enough for me in a LPChair. Weve got a broad spectrum of members and , at least for now , we all get along. …our Vice Chair is outspoken on matters as that , Jason Nellis , is our “lefty” leadin the anti cop.anti torture protests , Duensing is an elected member , every candidate that wanted to ran , So , while I certainly agree in abolishing the CIA , and while I probably wouldnt want him on the plat com , here in NV , he digs ok
That was a great debate , Jim was a great moderator and zinged Root as well as baited Phillies. George found his voice that night and was most improved candidate. I remember controversy of charging to be in the debate….some were miffed. As well as the platform comm rubbing folks the wrong way ad their meeting space being pulled. and in the room playing a certain movie….also the keynote speaker was controversial……man was that fun!
The LSLA Duensing put on made money and went well. we had full soundboard with mic for each candidate ….we had speakers and put on a great show albeit some topics annoyed folks. I am actally very proud we pulled that off.
If there was an LSLA in Reno it would have had to been before the first one I went to, which was 2007 in Orlando.
You’re right. The debate was in Vegas…but there was an LSLA in Reno. Was that the year before possibly? I am sure we had something in Reno, because I remember thinking about that show Reno 911 when we were driving around.
Yes. Maybe Nevada and LSLA could join the cruise next year?
That was actually in Vegas.
Small correction: I believe Reno may have lost money. I still had fun, and a certain person who was chair then and is currently dealing with more troublesome issues now did try to put on a good event.
I remember saying to Jim Burns afterwards that he had won the debate hands down. Clearly one of his best evenings. Dr Phillies will certainly recall the debate. I believe I would have placed him second or third in the field that evening. Root was ahead of last place only because of Mr “I”.
Yes, the LSLA in Ohio was an excellent event. The organization had really only had two bad years, caused by the selection of a controversial location and the boycotting of the event by a number of us. Previous recent LSLA events (listed in no particular order) in places like Reno, Austin and Charleston were well attended, cost significantly less — I believe all $99 or less — and did not lose money. And they had speakers and forums with libertarian credentials, not just this puffed up list of Nevada “celebrities”.
The Ohio LSLA event was well organized, and the 2012 event space was handed to the LSLA on a silver platter, so it was “acceptable”, however we now once again find one small and highly self interested group in control. It is certainly possible that this event will succeed, but if Pojunis’ history repeats (ref 2012 convention promises that he failed entirely to produce, etc), then someone will have a big mess to clean up again. If this were the roulette wheel in Vegas, I would say you’d have better odds putting it all on double zero.
As soon as Pojunis figures out how to bilk us and make a big score he will be gone before he can be caught. He’s figured out that the party is full of people who will fall for his lip-service libertarianism and occasionally give him money to play with.
Who’s the bigger fool, him or his victims? Wake up LP! Watch your wallets! Pojunis has his hand out again!
Andy, I’m aware of how Brett Pojunis reacted to Nick Sarwark’s excellent Press Release about abolishing the CIA. I said here on IPR that I would personally not support Brett anymore (not that he needs or has asked for my support). However, my comment that he was at least trying to do something was meant “in comparison with Ca”, who apparently couldn’t be bothered to plan a convention in our state.
“California has already done the cruise ship, to which members without passports could not enter.”
Something which can be blamed, as with many things, on a stupid Federal law. In this case, the law that says only US-built, -crewed, and -flagged ships can go from one American port to another. Since effectively no such cruise ships exist, anybody wanting to chart a cruise from (for example) Los Angeles to Seattle, must have at least one stop in Canada or Mexico.
There are other reasons why a party convention on a cruise ship is a bad idea, of course, namely the expense.
Paulie–
There is no dark side of the moon; it’s all dark.
California has already done the cruise ship, to which members without passports could not enter.
That’s still too close.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcqhUYKD6H8
It’s either that or have it in Hawaii.
Maybe next time they can have the California/Nevada convention and the LSLA meeting all be held on a cruise ship.
I’m excited for LPEX. I don’t know, but I’d expect you could attend the LSLA meeting without registering for LPEX – I don’t see how voting members could be kept out of a business meeting for not paying a different organization.
Seems to be a pretty popular weekend. Colorado, Oregon, Indiana and Minnesota are all that same weekend too. As for me, I hope to be working in Arkansas by then. Or maybe in Birmingham if I can somehow get funding.
Andy Craig is excused from attending LPNY Convention as Wisconsin is also that day, but I hope to see all the rest of you in attendance for my final convention as New York State Chair.
LPNY Convention will be Saturday, April 25 at the Holiday Inn in Rochester, NY.
Our terrific Vice-Chair Arvin Vorha will be one of the speakers.
In furtherance of Stewart’s comment this morning at 6:25 a.m.
If I recall, LSLA (or its predecessor, State Chair’s Alliance) basically died from non-attention, and Kevin in Ohio, Sam in Indiana and Luis in Illinois revived it and held a great function in the summer of 2011 in Columbus.
The cost was around $40 per person to cover the room and lunch. Very reasonable, but also very low-key considering LSLA was raising up from the ashes.
We owe a huge debt to those three for bringing it back (and to M Carling who was the only officer of the former State Chair’s Alliance who held it together to turn over to new leadership that summer).
With respect to the current plans, if the price is too high, people won’t attend (free market and all that). On the other hand, if people want to spend the cost of travel, hotel and the event, more power to them.
I am all in favor of events making a profit. We just made $107 profit at the Manhattan LP Convention. Maybe not as high as those big spenders in Vegas hope to realize.
I imagine most of the attendees will be from the Western states.
Wisconsin has confirmed that our convention will be on April 25 at the Olympia resort in Oconomowoc.

” Libertarian National Committee because over an LNC press release that called for abolishing”
Should read, “Libertarian National Committee over an LNC press release that called for abolishing…”
Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but doesn’t the Libertarian Party of California by laws say that the State Convention has to be held in northern California or southern California? The last time I checked Las Vegas, Nevada is not in California.
“Jill Pyeatt
January 31, 2015 at 12:01 pm
There are some mighty unhappy Californians, and I’m one of them. On the other hand, at least Brett and the Nevada LP is doing something.”
You mean like complaining and threatening to cut off Libertarian Party members in Nevada from communications from the Libertarian National Committee because over an LNC press release that called for abolishing the CIA, which is a perfectly Libertarian position? What kind of Libertarian supports the CIA, or would get upset over calling for it to be shut down?
There are some mighty unhappy Californians, and I’m one of them. On the other hand, at least Brett and the Nevada LP is doing something. I would think it shouldn’t be too hard to find out who’s getting any profit.
Now we have lpex? According to the LSLA website, this year’s meeting will be held “during” this “expo”.
Go look at the cost. The “early bird” price says $299, but is actually $305.97 in the checkout section.
I have run an LSLA conference. You can have a good conference and not lose money for a lot less than $300-$400 a person, which is more than the cost of a national convention!
Who intends to pocket this profit? I’d bet it is NOT the LSLA.
Is this another scheme by Pojunis? This is offensive. If this is what they are doing, the entire board of the LSLA should be removed immediately by the state chairs.
I was considering going to LSLA, but not at this price and certainly NOT if Pojunis is pocketing the money.
Massachusetts will be mid-October, likely in the Marlborough area.
Well, I found this on FB tonight:
The ‘official’ 120 day notice of the 2015 Libertarian Party of California convention has been released. It will be May 28-31, 2015 at the Las Vegas Tropicana in Las Vegas Nevada.
As a response to requests for more info, we were given this link:
http://www.lpex.org/
Did LPNevada choose a new logo yet?
Andy said: ” I really was not impressed at all with Brett’s response to Sarwark’s press release calling for the CIA to be abolished.”
Not only was I not impressed, that really has made me question Brett’s true allegiance to the LP. How could ANYONE in the LP not want the CIA shut down.?
That’s a rhetorical question. No need to discuss here, since we hashed it out here a month or two ago.
I’d love to, but I’m having to cut back on non-work related travel due to health and financial reasons. The two are closely related, because health issues limit how many hours I can force myself to petition in a stretch, and that obviously reduces how much I make. I haven’t worked since last summer, and I’m hoping to get back to work in March, but I don’t think I will be making enough to to take off for a week or more, spend several days on the bus, and then several more days in between going to a convention, not working, and spending all the money on the bus ticket, motel and food and drinks. I did way too much of that the last few years and I can’t really do it any more, or at least not nearly to as much of an extent.
I really was not impressed at all with Brett’s response to Sarwark’s press release calling for the CIA to be abolished.
freedom fest will be 1 week later…gonna be a great fucking 2 weeks for liberty in vegas. hope to see you both p and jill
bretts expo idea , while seeming awesome, ill admit made me a bit nervous starting to plan at this late date…hell likely pull it off spectacularly , but admittedly my first thought was , holy shit is there time to do allthat
I’m adding it to the listing here in a minute, and emailed it to Wes.

Brett announced it a while back on the state chairs list. LSLA has an events page for it at https://www.facebook.com/events/322416771295270/ Leigh LaChine asked me to promote it, and I promised I’d help him but haven’t really doe anything yet. Trying to do too many things and not much energy.
Joshua, Brett Pojunis announced that a contract had been signed on the LP Nevada page, but asked that it be kept quiet until (I recall) they had done a bit more planning. I assume the CA LP is preparing their notifications now, since we need 120 days notice. I’ll announce something as soon as Brett and/or Kevin does (or unless someone else here does).
Las Vegas wouldn’t have been my choice, but if that’s where it is, we’ll definitely be going this year.
Oregon’s convention registration is now available
Lpoconvention.com
Good question. You should probably check with the hotel and the conference organizers.
Was I supposed to wait to make my reservations for Vegas, or indicate in some way that they’re for this event? I didn’t realize rooms were blocked for it.
550 room nights, but that’s probably still over 200 rooms, since not all rooms will be for every night (some people will only get one or two nights).
Yes, Paulie, I read that it will be at the Tropicana the weekend of May, 28-31.
Brett is planning quite an event. He said he’s committed to 550 rooms! At least we have four months to advertise it, and get things moving.
Via Bill Redpath on LPNoVa meetup, Virginia will not have a statewide LP convention this year.
Via Brett Pojunis on FB, the CA/NV/LSLA convention is firmed up.
I don’t know if this means the CA and NV conventions have been firmed back up, or if LSLA hasn’t gotten the memo that the original arrangements fell through?
LSLA Chair Leigh LaChine to State Chairs list:
I wanted to take this opportunity to announce that the Libertarian State Leadership Alliance (LSLA) 2015 conference will be held in conjunction with the first Libertarian Political Expo (LPEX) on Thursday, May 28 through Sunday, May 31, 2015 at the Tropicana Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The conference will also include the Nevada and California state conventions.
I hope to provide activism training as requested in the Affiliate Support Committee survey. If you know of a Liberty organization that would like to exhibit at the conference, please have them contact me at [email protected].
Updated and bumped. I considered making the letter to statechairs a separate blog entry. Might break it out later depending on how things go.
Via FB from Doug Craig: GA will be March 7.
As of current, I will be boycotting the LP Florida convention, and am considering asking others to do the same.
The shady tricks that were pulled for a location (current Vice-Chair’s home county) and a wide variety of other reasons put a sour taste in my mouth.
Wes Benedict wrote to statechairs:
21 of 50 states are now accounted for on the new 2015 blog entry:

I’d be happy to speak at any state convention provided I’m available. Below is a video of my presentation to the LP Illinois where I gave away copies of my book at the end and helped raise funds for the LP Illinois.
The sound improves at the 2 minute mark:

It’s OK if you, or activists from your state, have insulted me in the past, or want to insult me in the future. I’ll still give a strong effort and help your state raise funds–ask Florida : )
You can view the speech here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpAR4_hJ3vk&feature=youtu.be
Based on that, I’m guessing he’d make a great speaker at state conventions.
Evan McMahan of the LNCC gives an entertaining and interesting speech on candidate training.

Manhattan LP (yeah, it’s a chapter and not a state but we got more people on my block than all of Montana and Wyoming combined!) will be on Saturday, January 24 at the world-famous Ukrainian East Village Restaurant, 140 Second Avenue at 9th Street, Big Apple, New York.
Register at manhattanlp.org/convention15.
Perogis for peace!!!
Forgot to say it last night but that was what I was able to find after looking thru all the state websites. Some of them may have it in a non-obvious place on their site that I missed.
Montana still has a 2003 event as its main headlining current event, and 2002 press releases under News, but it does have 2012 election information too.
Florida will be having its 2015 convention in New Port Richey on June 5-7, after some baboon changed the deadline and essentially rigged the bidding process in favor of his home county.

Oregon’s most likely last convention while affiliated with the LNC Inc will be April 24-26 in Salem Oregon.
I did not join the convention committee but since high school quality politics drove us away it would have been fitting to have a theme like prom … “So long and thanks for all the fish?”
I don’t think we have a date set in Alabama yet but I asked on the FB group.
A committee has been appointed to pick a location/date for Wisconsin, as well as potential speakers. They should be making an announcement shortly, with the date being in April most likely (or so I’ve been told).
I think Illinois is always in September. I don’t know if they have the exact dates set.
Massachusetts will be a weekend in Mid-October, not yet selected.
Must suck to be LPNV and LSLA if it’s true that they are planning their conventions to coincide with CA, then.
I don’t know, and I won’t know, since everything the Ex Com does in CA is a big secret. We’ll know when the announcement is made.
They couldn’t find another hotel on the same weekend in al of Vegas?
There had been a date announced, I think the weekend after Memorial Day IIRC, but apparently there was a problem with those dates having to do with the hotel, or something. I haven’t seen any new dates.
I could have sworn I saw the CA/NV/LSLA dates somewhere.
We still haven’t heard any dates for California, and it’s been a full month since the ExCom committee meeting that decided one day in Las Vegas would be appropriate. There’s a 120 day prior notice requirement, though, so it will most likely be in late May or June, I expect.
