America First Party: Iran’s ‘faults may be fewer’ than those of U.S.

In a statement issued today, the America First Party said the United States “should respect Iranian independence and avoid hypocrisy.” The AFP cites recent U.S. statements supporting Georgian sovereignty against foreign interference, and says the State Department is taking a markedly different position regarding Iran.

The AFP says, “Iran is not a perfect nation, but its faults may be fewer than those which point the accusing finger. After all, it is the U.S. which bears responsibility for overturning its elected government in the 1950s. Leaked documentation reveals this, and shows that the CIA holds up its subversive regime-change activities in this case as a model of how governments can be toppled. Let us put ourselves in the position of Iranians. How would we Americans react to the admission by a foreign power that it was behind the assassination of JFK? Most probably, there would be a very active military response. But Iran, other than seizing hostages in 1979, seems dovish in
comparison.”

The only state the AFP’s ever had a substantial presence in: the internet.

If I may ask, Fred, what state was this in?

Short answer is that the AFP had no formal connections to earlier incarnations by the same name. It was founded by disgruntled Buchanan reformers over RPUSA procedural B.S. Racists and anti-semites did seem to move in at one point (precipitating the AFP’s own schism) but it was more of a (failed) hostile takeover deal.

Of note, the AFP’s PA affiliate was not a Reform break off but rather the Populist Party of PA, the last holdout from the David Duke – Bo Gritz national vehicle. Bo Gritz was in the mix regarding the takeover attempt I mentioned, but I think that was his people acting independently, not in concert with PA.

I never heard any hints of racism or anti-semitism from anyone involved with them. The only occasion that comes to mind was when one guy (who was pretty moderate politically) posted a poem written by Lincoln Rockwell on the e-mail group. He was shouted down and abused to all hell for it, and his apology left little room for doubt that he didn’t know what he was doing, but internally they seemed to be about as concerned about racists as outsiders looking in are.

Does today’s AFP maintain any ties to the virulent racist and anti-semite (to the point of Holocaust denial) who founded a party of the same name in the 90’s?

I don’t link directly to the ADL, because I don’t think they’re fair, and I know that they smear people who are clearly not racists, but there WAS a racist group called the AFP in the 90s, and I once saw a Florida AFP guy on a KKK board in his official capacity. That was in 07.

I agree 1000% with this statement from the AFP.

I’m kinda turned off by “America First!” rhetoric. I think one should put one’s self/family first. But they hit the nail on the head with this one — courageous statement from the Right!

Who, darren? The AFP just cross-endorsed the CP last time.

Another contender for Ron Paul supporters to write-in and make no discernible impact on the election.

Neocons hate Iran and Muslims in general so they want to bomb and invade her. They hate Russia so they support Georgia. No hypocrisy. It is all very predictable if you know the prejudices of the neocons.
