Looks like we should be passing them in page views in a week or two….despite a six months head start.

I didn’t take it that way. She said: “that’s my personal blog and not really topical for a list of political blogs (MAYBE for a list of ‘personal blogs of Libertarians’).” I took the maybe as, well, a maybe.

  3. paulie cannoli January 28, 2009

Well, because she doesn’t want it there, would I guess be one reason. I’m not for linking to anyone who asks not to be linked.

  4. Jeremy Young January 28, 2009

That is to say, mine’s already there (thanks guys!), so why shouldn’t Susan’s be there too?

  5. Jeremy Young January 28, 2009

Colliething should be in the “reader blogs” section, along with mine, shouldn’t it? Susan probably reads this site more often than I do.

  6. paulie cannoli January 28, 2009

Also thanks to Jason Seagraves and Austin Cassidy for creating and managing IPR for its first several months, and to Trent for taking it on after that.

  7. Rachel H January 28, 2009

Hey, Trent, Paulie & anyone else that I can’t hink of –

CONGRATULATIONS! You all are doing a great job.

    Thank you.

  8. Susan Hogarth January 28, 2009

@11: thanks for the suggestion of a link to colliething.org, but that’s my personal blog and not really topical for a list of political blogs (MAYBE for a list of ‘personal blogs of Libertarians’). True, I talk about lib and LP stuff there, but I doubt anyone considers my new obsession with knitting to be of any political importance, even in the insular libertarian world 🙂

  9. Trent Hill January 28, 2009

    Thanks Jeremy!

    Please spread the word!

  10. Trent Hill January 28, 2009

    Paulie,

In my opinion, they’re about as big as the Boston Tea Party–which is why they’re on the “Party websites” blogroll. But we arent going to link them more than that until they’ve run candidates and such.

  11. Jeremy Young January 28, 2009

Congratulations!!! Keep up the good work.

  12. paulie cannoli January 28, 2009

Does the whig party run candidates and get votes? How many candidates, how many votes?

  13. Trent Hill January 28, 2009

    Paulie,

We dont link or not link sites because of their views. We link the Socialist Party, and we’d link the White Nationalist Party if they actually were a party that ran candidates and got votes.

  14. paulie cannoli January 28, 2009

The first thing I see when clicking on the link is a comment about the stimulus issue. So yes, I do believe that overall, the writers of Whigblog are well-informed. I don’t always agree with everything I read, but their blog is constantly updated, funny at times and insightful.

    http://whigblog.blogspot.com/2009/01/obama-administration-tests-new-approach.html

“Then again, if we had nuked Mecca seven years ago, we wouldn’t have to go around kissing the Muslim world’s ass like that. ”

I recommend staying far, far, far away from sites that spout that kind of genocidal hate garbage.

  15. Trent Hill January 28, 2009

    Paulie,

Most of the sites you suggested are lesser libertarian party blogs–or not third-party oriented at all. I’ll wade through ourt blogroll at some point soon, though.

  16. Trent Hill January 28, 2009

“Trent, really, get a grip. The site contains no ads. Therefore, it is worth nothing in traditional advertising revenue. lol”

I meant that our traffic does not make me think that advertising revenue would be worth much. We have non-traditional uses for the website that will make us money, rest assured. My boss would not have bought it if it werent going to make money–$60 in monthly ads is nothing comparitively. Still, we may set up a basic advertising scheme.

In any event, it was just a suggestion.

  18. Libertarian Joseph January 28, 2009

Paulie? You only want leftwing writers? What a socialist you are

  19. paulie cannoli January 28, 2009

    HS,

Well-informed, professional? The first thing I see is a call for having nuked Mecca.

I would advise against linking to genocidal hate blogs.

Similarly, please don’t link to Stormfront, either.

  20. HS January 28, 2009

One suggestion for the blog roll is http://www.whigblog.com. The writers are very well-informed, professional and increasingly active in Texas third party politics.

  21. Paleo Pat January 28, 2009

Good job! I still read this Blog. It’s on my RSS feeds.

    Congrads. 😀

    New authors.

    Most especially Greens and leftists.
    2nd priority CPers.
    3rd priority non-radical LPers.
And finally, anyone and everyone in the altpolitics universe who is willing – I will be scaling down my posting a lot as I get over being sick and get back to paying work more.

  23. paulie cannoli January 28, 2009

Sites to consider for the blogroll.

This is a cut and paste from an old email; we’ve added a few of these already….

    more links in the blogroll

    Candidates websites sidebar category?

  25. paulie cannoli January 28, 2009

Authors names on articles. I know you are working on that. Also, archives of articles and bios for each author.

Featuresto add – see NFV sidebar (scroll down right hand side to see) for demo:

    http://pauliecannoli.wordpress.com/

Link to archives from each month

    Top Clicks

    Top Posts

Category list….may not be feasible here, we have over 1500….maybe organize them into an expandable folder view somehow?

Link to last few articles from each author in the sidebar (separate category)

  26. paulie cannoli January 28, 2009

Blogroll still needs to be fixed – it’s on both sides of the page and the categories are messed up.

[email protected] was on the front page for a minute, then disappeared.

  27. Ross Levin January 28, 2009

Prospective Advertiser – it seems like Trent and his boss are thinking about that. It would also be a stupid idea to just throw up ads without thinking about it, because you might not be making as much money as possible.

Trent – please just don’t compromise quality at all for the sake of making a profit.

  28. Libertarian Joseph January 28, 2009

Trent, you are the one that bought this site from GE? hm

  29. Prospective Advertiser January 28, 2009

Trent, really, get a grip. The site contains no ads. Therefore, it is worth nothing in traditional advertising revenue. lol

You actually have no idea how much the site would generate in ad revenue if you won’t sell ads. I find this approach bizarre.

I think it would be great if your boss made a ton of money with the site. A rising tide lifts all boats.

  30. Trent Hill January 28, 2009

    Prospective,

This site was started simply as a news site, essentially for fun. With that said–we are going to utilize it to make money. Im not really at liberty to say how–but rest assured that my boss did not buy this site because he thought it was cool and he likes to collect urls, lol.
With all of that said, this site isnt worth much in traditional advertising revenue–especially in the election off-season.

  31. Prospective Advertiser January 28, 2009

I would like to see you guys have some sort of business model for making this site work. You don’t charge for subscriptions or memberships or commenting, which is cool. You don’t pay for articles, which limits who can afford to provide them. And you don’t sell advertising space.

So, it’s cool and the gang that you have lots of hits and page views and maybe three or four dozen unique IP addresses for the people who visit (do you track this stat?) but you don’t have a character of the demographics of your audience, and you don’t have a business model for making money. Can this go on?

  32. Trent Hill Post author | January 28, 2009

Also, we have almost 1.5 million page views. So not only are you guys visiting often, but you take time to look around! I appreciate it!
