Vermont Progressive Party to Hold 2025 State Convention in Barre

The Vermont Progressive Party will hold its 2025 state convention this month in Barre, following an earlier series of statewide reorganization caucuses. As part of the event, the party will honor chair Anthony Pollina for his service.

The party issued a convention reminder over the weekend, calling it “the culminating event where we join together to acknowledge all of the participation and renewed energy from the town caucuses and county meetings around the state.” The convention will take place November 9 at the Socialist Labor Party Hall, which also hosted the Progressive Party’s 2023 and 2024 meetings.

The party has not yet publicly shared an agenda or list of speakers, though it said the event will include a full afternoon of business. State Committee members will elect new members to the Coordinating Committee, with candidates for those positions asked to attend. The party also plans to honor Pollina, who first served as chair from 2007 to 2009 before being elected again in 2017, where he has served each year since.

Under Progressive Party bylaws, state conventions are held annually, though their purpose varies depending on the election cycle. Even-numbered-year conventions are used to establish or revise the party platform, while odd-numbered-year conventions coincide with the biennial reorganization of the State Committee. According to the party, 50 local reorganization caucuses were held in the lead-up to this year’s convention, with members selected at those caucuses attending the convention.

The party has also historically adopted resolutions during both types of conventions. Last year, members approved resolutions calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, pledging to field a full slate of candidates in 2026, and creating a Programs Committee to refine the party’s goals and identity in Vermont politics.
